For weeks, people have gathered on small town street corners, in major cities, state capitols and the nation's capital to express displeasure and disbelief at the way President Donald Trump is running the country. The largest protest by far is expected on Saturday, at hundreds of locations around the country. Nationwide more than 500,000 people have RSVP'd to attend one of 1,000 rallies marches or protests organized by a handful of grassroots groups.
"What April 5 is really about is saying, 'Hey folks, let's all come together in one day and show the power of our voices and ensure our voices are heard about what we're seeing coming out of this administration and to push back on these harms," MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting said.
Hunter Dunn, spokesman for one of the groups, called 50501 for 50 states, 50 capitols, one day, said organizers want to bring protests to the people who want to participate, rather than expecting everyone to converge on a handful of large cities. "We want to make that space to have those massive protests, but we also want to make sure that you can walk outside your door and start resisting if that's what you need to do. If that's all you can do, we have a place for you, Dunn said.
Hosting organizations include longstanding groups like Indivisible, Womens March, MoveOn, Working Families Power, and Public Citizen and grassroots groups like 50501 that have formed since Election Day. The Washington, D.C. event, expected to be the largest, starts at noon at the Washington Monument. Organizers said they expect it to be much bigger than the Peoples March that occurred the weekend before Trump's second inauguration. The protests will be livestreamed here.

(4,186 posts)I worry that we have lost big time twice trying to just say "Trump is bad". He is, but it's better policy proposals and showing meaningful empathy for the voters' interests that gets us back in power in 2026 and beyond.

(41,816 posts)Spineless republicans prioritizing party over country for fear of getting primaried. I do believe we are very close to being in a situation where those who back trump will be primaried.

(52,753 posts)Of course Musk is included but basically everything that the GOP has done is a valid issue to protest. I've seen a lot of signs directed at the Republicans. I'm re-using my anti-tRump signs from 2017. I have them back to back so I people behind me can see my signs, too.
With over 1,000 protests planned this will be one to remember, like The Women's March in 2017. This will be historic.
I've been an activist since 1979 and this is incredible. It has grown so quickly and so large. Many people who have never even been to a protest before are going to this one. There are about 14 protests throughout Europe, too. I think they are underestimating the turnout, from what I've been seeing and reading over the past few weeks.

(534 posts)The reality is that when the protests hit DC (and they will) Trump is fully prepared to order the military to shoot them. I pray to God it doesn't happen but I really believe in my heart it will. The final act of any dictator is to attempt to violently subdue the citizens in order to maintain power. It doesn't matter if the protests are peaceful he will do it anyway. Sadly that will be the tipping point where he is removed from power and everyone who supported him will have more blood on their hands.
I don't mean to be a downer and my prediction does not mean people should not protest, we just need to understand the potential consequences to some of those that protest.

(11,458 posts)is much more likely to happen a little way down the road if we do not stand up for democracy and our rights now.

(23,166 posts)Been waiting for someone to put together something. What's happened to America is shameful. We have to crush them at the ballot box, all those ignoramuses who vote out of spite or out of ignorance. Let's show them who America really is and what it stands for. It ain't divisive stories about toothpick or egg prices!
