Germany has updated its travel advisory for the United States to emphasize that a visa or waiver allowing entry does not guarantee Germans to enter the U.S. after several of its citizens were detained at the border.
According to an advisory on Germanys Foreign Office website, the country warned that entry through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) system or a U.S. visa is not entitled every time and that the U.S. border control has final decision. It is recommended that you bring proof of your return journey upon entry, the office said.
The office noted that a criminal conviction in the U.S., false information about an individuals purpose of stay, or even a slight overstay of the visa can lead to arrest, detention and deportation.
The new advisory comes as Germany is investigating the case of three of its citizens being denied entry and placed in detention when they tried to enter the U.S. A spokesperson said the incidents of the past week involving German citizens entering the USA are being taken very seriously, local media reported.

(55,481 posts)In 2023, nearly 2 million German tourists visited the United States.
If that number substantially drops, it will have a huge economic impact on our tourism industry, and economy.
Canadian tourists are already shunning to US, after ICE arrested, chained and shackled and confiscated the visa of a Canadian woman trying to enter the US at the Mexican border by San Diego--and held her for two weeks! https://www.10news.com/news/local-news/never-seen-anything-so-inhumane-canadian-woman-put-in-chains-detained-by-ice-after-entering-san-diego-border
ICE and US Border Patrol are out of control.

(6,527 posts)Border Patrol treated my native American students like they were "illegals" especially on their own "reservation." They assume everyone is not an American citizen and it's up to you to prove otherwise.
CBP treated my wife like a criminal and threatened to contact the US Marshals when they abused my wife in SEATAC. I was detained in Nogales for not telling them where I lived after I gave them my passport proving I was an American citizen, then listened to them scream "why do Americans always cause the problems."
ICE are Trump's personal Freikorp.

(57,770 posts)My wife is a tall, blonde northern European, but has no US residence or citizenship. She has no intention of staying longer then 90 days, and will have her return flight info with her (as well as me). But these fanatics don't always need a legal reason to harass someone if they are feeling ornery, and she has been the victim of that even before the Biden era.

(37,171 posts)German tourists - until this year - have been a boon to our economy. They come here with friendly curiosity and with money to spend. And now we have slammed all the doors in their faces. Other European tourists have taken note, we can be sure.
