Ten Democrats join Republicans to vote to censure Al Green over Trump speech

Source: The Guardian

The House voted on Thursday to censure Al Green for disrupting Trump’s joint session address, with a handful of Democrats voting to condemn the Democratic Texas representative along with Republicans.

The House voted 224-198, with 10 Democrats voting in favor of the censure, which accuses Green of a “breach of proper conduct”.

During the early part of Trump’s speech on Tuesday, Green repeatedly shouted “He has no mandate!” as the president touted his electoral victory, prompting the Republican speaker, Mike Johnson, to order his removal – an extraordinary measure in congressional history.

Green becomes the 28th member of Congress to be censured.

The Jared that's constantly on BTC and other shows griping about Trump and Republicans in Congress. Maybe not happy about Green but a censure??

3. Funny how no one cared when Marjorie Taylor Green and Lauren Boebert were rude and disruptive at Biden's SOTU

Or even more to the point, as Jrose posted earlier quoting Andy Borowitz:

"House Republicans have censured Al Green for heckling. He should have stuck to behavior the GOP approves of in the Capitol, like beating up police officers and shitting on desks"

If any of them are your representatives, contact their offices---and tell them exactly how disappointed you are in them, for making common cause with the trump goons.

You shouldn't bite your tongue. tRump is full speed ahead on turning our country into a fascist dictatorship while the other side is too busy being "nice" and censoring those who speak out. This is a recipe for disaster for anyone who truly cares about democracy

MTG, Boebert, and that guy who yelled "you lie!" to Obama were all quick outbursts. They were not warned.

Al Green's was continuous, and not an outburst. He too wasn't warned at first. Then, after continually disrupting, he was told to sit down. After not listening, he was threatened with the Sergeant At Arms. After still not listening, he was finally removed.

I agree with Al Green, and I'm glad that he did it. But even if Jeffries were Speaker, he too would have ordered the same removal as Johnson did. What was he supposed to do?
