Vice President Harriss campaign unveiled an ad Tuesday focused on the nations southern border, featuring Olivia Troye, ex-national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence.
In the ad first provided exclusively to The Hill, Troye talked about her time working for the Trump administration and argued in favor of Harriss border security plans.
Kamala Harris is a leader we need to keep our country safe and strong, Troye said. As a homeland security expert, I trust her to protect the border. Kamala Harriss plan will strengthen our border security and crack down on drug smuggling and human trafficking.
The 30-second ad, titled Protect, dropped on digital platforms just before the vice presidential debate. Harris visited the border in Arizona on Friday and pledged to sign a new version of the failed bipartisan Senate border deal and to further strengthen the asylum restrictions that have played a part in reducing border crossings since May.

(Slang note - "DROP" = "RELEASES" )

I.e., I left off at some of the "peak" early '90s people like SWV, En Vogue, TLC, Kris Kross, and dipped into Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Ice-T, Ice Cube, etc., but after that... I started listening to my "old school" again.

(37,075 posts)"This ad dropped recently" suggests a dropping into place.
"They dropped this ad" suggest they dropped it like a hot potato.
The first case (intransitive) has no direct object.
The second case (transitive) does -- "this ad".
It makes all the difference.
It would be better if this type of usage had never been introduced, since it's based on an inobvious metaphor. If people are going to use it, they should think about what they're trying to say, and realize that only the intransitive construction works for them.
Or just drop "dropped", and use "introduced", "debuted", etc.

(3,849 posts)but it happens every generation or two. It's frustrating to us older people who grew up with words and phrases that meant one thing, only to find the younger generation turning the meanings on their head. But, we've been here before many times, and we'll be here again many times in the future. But it is confusing! I thought at first reading of the headline that Harris' campaign had decided not to use the ad for some reason. That's the definition of "drop" I grew up with. I also understand the "drop" meaning from the younger generation. This is just going to be one of those things we get to gripe about, like our parents griped about our language as we turned into older teens. I kinda look at it like a privilege... I lived long enough to get to this point! (LOL)
