JD Vance says 2021 comments about giving more votes to people with kids were a 'thought experiment'

Source: NBC News

Aug. 11, 2024, 2:01 PM EDT

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance on Sunday defended his 2021 comments about allocating more votes to people with children, saying they were a “thought experiment.”

In a widely circulated video clip from a 2021 speech he gave to a conservative organization called the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, Vance suggested giving more votes to people with children than to people who have none.

“Let’s give votes to all children in this country, but let’s give control over those votes to the parents of those children,” Vance said in his 2021 speech. “When you go to the polls in this country as a parent, you should have more power — you should have more of an ability to speak your voice in our democratic republic — than people who don’t have kids. Let’s face the consequences and the reality: If you don’t have as much of an investment in the future of this country, maybe you shouldn’t get nearly the same voice.”

During an interview on ABC News on Sunday, Vance, R-Ohio, maintained that his 2021 comment was “not a policy proposal,” but a “thought experiment.”

Say it then claim it if it gets approval and deny, defuse or pretend you weren’t serious if it will lose you votes.

Of course we couldn't use it as openly or often as we'd like - there are kids listening.

But dude! This will be part of the legacy with which you'll go down in history. For those who don't mind a little rough language. "The Couch Fucker."

He really isn't very good at this politics thing. Having a billionaire buy you a public office based on your willingness to just be his puppet isn't going to teach Shady anything.

He might do better to try to work out his writer's block and knock off another book or two in the quiet of his home office.

From now on, any MAGA policy proposal from project 2025, Vance, et al is merely a "thought experiment". I take that to mean "they thought it was an experiment they could get away with, until it blew up in their faces".

. . . Extend to unmarried women on public assistance? Their children's futures are important, right? So, they get extra votes. And they might want to see the Child Tax Credit kept in place. Also, they might want Medicaid expanded in every state, and programs like Head Start could use more funding.

This might not be such a bad idea.

I'm getting a lot of weird results like "58 state Democratic sweep", and that can't be right, maybe the sim needs some constraint adjustments. Oh, also, if you're reading this Mr. Vance, try to avoid tall buildings with large windows for like... the next 3 years. Probably nothing, but the word "defenestration" does keep showing up in my simulations with alarming frequency.

“Let’s give votes to all children in this country, but let’s give control over those votes to the parents of those children”

Hmmm...
Give votes to children BUT their parents do the actual voting.
So in the real world, you haven't 'given' the children anything.
Typical Repug.
Once the child is born, they get nothing.

by forcing an "address" (in whatever form THEY "dictate" ) in order to be able to register to vote. E.g., those forced to use a P.O. box because there is either no "address" for them (rural, RVer, boater, etc) or they are unsheltered and moving from facility to facility, then here comes the problem.
