"Nobody said I couldn't, so I did."

That seems to be the guiding philosophy behind trump's "redecorating" scheme. After destroying the East Wing, trashing the Lincoln Reflecting Pool, turning the Rose Garden into Mar a Lago North, planning to install a hideous giant arch in honor of himself that will block the view of Arlington, and splattering tacky gold bling onto every available surface in what's left of the White House, now he's "fixing" the columns on the porch. Could be that his latest reno is channeling his grandfather, creating a suitable entrance for what he hopes will be an official government whore house. And those who could stop him are waiting for their share of the proceeds.

He seems to enjoy getting a rise out of people. It’s a way to knock them off their game. Or out of their self-protection instincts. Makes it easier for him to “get in”, that way.

4. You think the East Wing can be put back to the way it was? It's demolished, can't be undone.

Trump spends it as if it grows on trees, but the R's will NEVER let Dems spend to undo the f'ing ball room. Or the leaky f'ing blue bottomed reflecting pool

Americans are actually going to be stuck with his shit for a long time because it's too expensive to return it to its original state.

Waaaaay back in my high school days we had a thing called a "car smash". They dragged in some older car, no engine but body in decent shape, and charged $1.00 a ticket; each ticket got you one swipe with a sledgehammer, and guys were lined up around the block. At the end, the car was unrecognizable, but the team raised quite a bit of money while the hammer-wielders worked off some of their aggravations. I bet that hideous arch thing would sell enough tickets, say at $100 per ticket, to reduce that thing to a pile of rubble, with enough cash left over to restore the spot. I'd also bet that the ticket line would wind around most of the mid-Atlantic states.
