video posts without any analysis are low effort

Probably not gonna change anything but need to speak up. Posts that have video links without any analysis or commentary from OP are worthless. Doesn't matter if they were significant to OP but ya gotta tell me why. Else imo you're just karma farming and I'll skip right over.

on that topic. I hate having to hit a link to get the information, so I don't. They usually leave countless unwanted cookies that I don't want to clean out. To me just a link is just rude.

This is legitimately good constructive criticism. Feedback to a poster to get more responses is a good thing, not something to condemn or argue against.

Sometimes, the video makes the point all by itself. But to browbeat anyone for not meeting your personal standards, well, that's a bit arrogant.

a video. I'd like to see a synopsis to know if it's something I want to read more of later.

A link, video or other, with NO description, to me is nothing more than mindless click-bait.

At the very least, there should be a summary of the point being made.

"Here is how to get more engagement" might be a better subject line, but, in the end, I have a hard time disagreeing that the posts discussed would be improved with the suggestions given.

What length video do you expect me (or anyone around here) to sit in front of the computer and watch?

>5 minutes? Okay, I'm actually cool with that, but not necessarily with content until I've checked it out. There's a ton of garbage content that gets posted on this website. That last sentence applies to every item here.

>10 minutes? Okay, better be concise, no hysterical bullshit, no AI slop, show me something professionally produced with researchable facts with respect to something I really care about.

>15 minutes? It'd better be some sensational but factually backed up shit. In none of these instances do I really want to just sit and watch some schmo commenting on what they think about what I just watched.

30 minutes? Just no. C'mon, I've got a life man. Plus, there's so much fluff in those 30 minute videos, they just piss me off.

I can read in less than 60 seconds, any summary of a 5 minute tiktok video. Give me text, not video.

without some basic description of content bearing on why I should.

And you can shrug your shoulders ("to each his own&quot - but the comments, not only here but in prior posts on this issue, are telling us that there are quite a number of DU participants that feel the same way. Long and short - if you want to get a point across, or impart some information ... You would be engaging a much greater audience by just investing a little effort. Yeah?

I watch some videos in the DU Lounge. Elsewhere the little red box marking a YouTube post means "ignore this" to me. It doesn't matter if the poster comments on it or not.

This certainly isn't true for everyone, but it keeps me sane.

Cannot stand talkover videos with some idiot babbling over, around, and between a readily accessible news video.

DU is the ONLY internet commentary I can barely tolerate. Sometimes.

That goes along with the video. Various posters, who I won't name, can't be bothered to copy that descriptive text. They'll copy the link, they'll copy the title, but not copy the text that might motivate a viewer to watch the video. Shrug

Is that trusted media appeared to be sort of vanishing.

And by goat, I mean complacency.

Seriously though for me, it’s challenging when people just pull up down a link with no text or anything to tell me what it is before I click on it. At least YouTube links give you the title picture. So when that happens, I generally ask them if they’d be so kindest to share a few paragraphs about it because I don’t care to quick blindly, understanding the risks.

Also, nobody peels my grapes.

Which is why many of us don’t bother with video posts – it’s faster to read than watch, and much of what’s posted isn’t worthy to watch.
