........one question. When I accuse my right wing friends of only listening to Fox news, I am sometimes uncomfortable with the idea that I am no better than they, living in an echo chamber that is DU and the other left wing sites that I peruse.
Can anyone here suggest a right leaning site, be it relatively sane or of the "frothing at the mouth" variety, that might help me out? By this, I mean one that could help me in pointing out to them why their positions are so delusional.

They will only claim that CNN is liberal.

Oddly, we all hit it off and have continued to enjoy each others company for about ten years. I'd recommend this to anyone, with the caveat that it really depends on who you invite and, well finding right wing crazies who have an open mind is generally one step too far, finding them with some degree of politeness and social skills, and a sense of humor, is not impossible.

(173,933 posts)right wingers support a party that is racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-science, anti-worker, increasingly downright fascist - why would anyone like that have "an open mind"?

I turned it off 📴 in 2016, and outside of Kimmel/Colbert(sigh) monologues I never watch it.

(40,998 posts)I think the only media worse than television for news and opinion is the site formerly known as twitter.
Television seems to bypass people's critical thinking skills. People don't watch television with their finger on the remote control ready to hit the pause button whenever something doesn't sound quite right. In the past that wasn't even possible. Pausing to think things over is a natural thing to do while reading or having a conversation with someone.
Television is a very effective medium for propaganda. If it wasn't nobody would be buying television advertising.
Television advertising is another thing I avoid. The television in our house plays DVDs and two or three no-advertising streaming channels. That's all it does. On my computers all advertising that moves or make noise is blocked.
As I said in a related thread, this keeps me sane. I don't want that noise in my head.
Maybe my biggest issue is my restlessness. I can't sit passively watching news that I can't do anything about. I don't need to fill my head with any more images of common violence -- I've experienced more than enough of that first hand. While reading news and opinion I can skip the stuff that's not actionable by me and throw myself deeper into stuff that is.
I'm sure Jen Psaki is a wonderful person but I don't have her phone number and she doesn't have mine.
I have in the past been a temporary annoyance to prominent people such as Leon Panetta or Robert Reich when our paths have crossed over some issue that I find especially important. I think I got that from my mom. She was never awed by any sort of celebrity or authority. Sometimes I end up looking like an idiot or crazy person but that's okay. Sometimes I am.
None of that is "head in the sand."

(27,798 posts)I've heard it recommended by a couple of podcasters that I listen to (paid endorsement, I realize, but they're selective about those).
What are your thoughts on Ground News?
I used to check Allsides fairly regularly, until I curtailed my media intake drastically a year and a half ago. I haven't tried Ground News, other than a couple of cursory visits. I have been gradually increasing my news intake; I should add one or both to my regimen.

(11,877 posts)Anti-trump, FORMER Republicans (a lot of them were political operative types), so yes, they bend toward right-leaning with a dose of reality.
Conservative in their case means cautious, small steps toward progress, cause that's how you don't break things that already work.
One of the highlights of my week is Rick Wilson LAUGHING at how low trumps poll numbers can go.
One of the guys this week said of Ken Paxton
'How dumb do you have to be, to NOT have an affair correctly?'
A note of caution--for most of the MAGAs in your life, never-trump will mean the same as supporting Stalin, so not necessarily ice breaker conversations there, but if YOU need maybe a different take, that might work for you.
There are some here who are gonna yell at me now; that's ok lol. I love y'all.

Boann Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey Madeira Cask
A New Dawn .
Initially, matured in ex-Bourbon Barrels from the famed Brown Forman of Kentucky and made from American Oak 200ltr (Quercus Alba) with a heavy charring. We filled these casks with a mixed mash bill Single Pot Still distillate which included malted barley, unmalted barley, oats and rye. All of these grains are Irish and grown locally.
In collaboration with the famous Madeira house, Justinos, we sourced some of their finest vintage Madeira casks of Tinta Negro (1998 & 2000), Boal (1999) and Sercial (1999, 2000 & 2006) Madeira Colheita wine single varietals. We were able to access these casks from a friendship that has flourished from a previous special collaboration.
The wines have been fortified and undergone the canteiro process where the wine is barrel aged with naturally high temperatures in the barrel storage room, replicating the sea voyage maritime aging of the past on Portugal galleons of the medieval ages. All casks were formally 350ltr Cognac casks made from (Quercus Robur) French Oak. These Madeira wines ranged from Sweet to Medium to Dry, offering a wide depth and breadth of the terroir of the volcanic island of Madeira.
The label design of this expression talks about water which is a vital ingredient when making whiskey. This is also a nod to the flowing waters of the Boyne River as well as the North Atlantic Ocean surrounding the Madeira Islands.

But I already have a bottle of Elijah Craig Rye Whiskey set aside for that event.

I have been preaching the Gospel of Sazerac since my first sip of rye twenty years ago. But I think I will follow your fine example and go buy a bottle of Mr. Craig's rye tomorrow and set it aside for that joyous day. Soon, please. Thank you. Inspired in Spokane.
