1/ Thereâs a quiet army you probably havenât heard about. Hundreds of retired federal judges, appointed by presidents of both parties, are coming off the sidelines to defend our courts and our democracy. What theyâre doing should give you real hope. 𧵠#DV1 #ProudBlue #Voices4Victory #USDemocracy

2/ In Florida, 35 former federal judges asked a court to reopen the case behind a .8 billion fund they called the product of collusion and fraud. The judge took them seriously and ordered the administration to respond. Thatâs the system working. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/03/u...

3/ At the Supreme Court, more than 175 former judges filed a brief pushing back on âshadow docketâ rulings, arguing that emergency orders with no written reasoning should not bind lower courts. Theyâre defending every judgeâs ability to actually judge.

(635 posts)I've felt overwhelmed by the amount of responsibility that seemed to get dumped on us ordinary patriotic citizens that don't have the power necessary to fight this menace.
Thank you, retired judges!
Now, where are the retired GENERALS???!!!!

(98,819 posts)These judges give me hope.
Here is a bit more:
5/ One name is on all three briefs: J. Michael Luttig. A conservative legal giant, appointed by George H.W. Bush, once considered for the Supreme Court. This is not partisan. This is people who love the law defending it from people who would break it.

6/ Think about what this means. These judges are retired. No salary, no robe, no power to gain. They could stay comfortable and quiet. Instead theyâre signing their names, putting decades of reputation on the line, because the rule of law is worth fighting for.

7/ And courts listen. When people who spent their careers on the bench tell a judge âyou were deceived, look again,â that carries weight no press release ever will. Theyâre fighting inside the system, with the systemâs own tools, and itâs working.

(10,723 posts)He is possibly the most thoughtful, well-reasoned legal expert I've ever heard speak about trump and the actions of this administration. IIRC I believe he was also outspoken during trump's first term. He doesn't get political at all, he just talks in terms of the Constitution.

I've always noticed a uniquely powerful respect for him.
Thank you, Sir!

(4,243 posts)He probably didn't meet the litmus test of partisan behavior they were looking for. I wonder which one of the 6 got the nod instead.
WestMichRad
(3,469 posts)He was considered very similar in analytical rigor and critique of colleagues for inconsistencies or embellishments in their judicial opinions. (Wiki). He helped Justices David Souter and Clarence Thomas through the nomination process during the GWB administration. W interviewed him as a candidate for the SCOTUS seats that were filled by Roberts and Alito.

I respect that hes speaking out nowadays, but am not sure I would have wanted him on the SCOTUS bench. On the other hand, vs Roberts and Alito

(2,746 posts)from both parties to start raising hell every day. Along with ALL of the retired Military generals and admirals.....
Trump and Republicans have a history of throwing people under the bus the minute they are of no further use......
LOL......
I wonder if the Republicans in the U.S. Senate, the Republicans in the U.S. House, and the Republicans on the U.S. Supreme Court
have considered... THAT THERE IS NO LEGISLATIVE BRANCH OR JUDICIAL BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT IN A DICTATORSHIP?

Better than MAGA setting the unconstitutional legal agenda.
