Seems Bill McKibben gets it.

Bill McKibben, founder of Third Act, is going to be in Maine and wants a chance to galvanize us to support Graham Platner for Senate.

Anyone who's watched my rhetoric the last few months knows I did not initially support Platner. I generally take a dim view of populists since they often times turn out to be demagogs. But this die is cast whether you and I like it or not. So we'd best get on board or stand down, and stop doing Republican's work for them or it will most certainly be 6 more years of Susan Collins pearl clutching and concern, while voting for nearly every fascist policy she can. That's life, folks. You don't often get what you want but you better damn sure do the best you can with what you do get.

... those clearly orchestrating a smear with the goal, not of reporting past conduct in context with in-depth reporting, but to incite mob mentality, pure and simple. The piling on. The timing and rapidity of release, one after another to ensure no one report is scrutinized.

The smear is intended to reach far beyond the borders of Maine. And we who live beyond those borders can "stand down and stand by," or take a stand with dollars and words.

A mob doesn't stop and think. A mob doesn't take time to seek more information or put into context. A mob doesn't consider the human capacity for transformation. A mob doesn't call for deeper investigation of reports.

No. A mob grows on it's own momentum. Emotional contagion takes hold. As the mob forms people are thoughtlessly pulled in. As more join the mob, it's the classic snowball. If all these people are out there with pitchforks and torches, there MUST be a damn good reason. No need to stop, think, learn more, or evaluate.

I will add that everyone I know - every single one - who has heard Platner speak in person has been impressed.

Defeating Collins, with the next Supreme Court vacancy looming, is paramount.
