A CNN report* says the Trump administration has restricted key U.S. infectious disease researchers from directly communicating with the World Health Organization during major virus outbreaks, including Ebola and hantavirus. Officials at the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases can now only attend some WHO meetings in a limited listening role, with follow-up routed through the Department of Health and Human Services. Critics and former health officials warn the restrictions are slowing global coordination at a time when the U.S. is also facing major leadership vacancies across agencies like the CDC, FDA, and surgeon generals office. The report also links the administrations pullback from global health institutions and cuts to USAID to weaker international outbreak response systems. Despite the criticism, the administration says the U.S. remains fully prepared to respond to public health threats and continues coordinating through the CDC.
The World Health Organization says the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is spreading faster than response efforts can contain it, with neighboring countries now considered at high risk. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said there have been 220 suspected deaths so far and warned that violence and attacks on health facilities are severely disrupting containment efforts. In several incidents, angry residents attacked hospitals and treatment centers after authorities refused to release Ebola victims bodies for traditional burials, allowing multiple infected patients to escape. Uganda has also confirmed additional Ebola cases, including infections among health workers in Kampala. The outbreak is being fueled by insecurity in eastern Congo and the lack of an approved vaccine for the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.

(8,019 posts)that way the numbers wouldn't show how bad it actually was in america. Denialism. trump lives off it. Being science stupid is courting disaster, but then... he doesn't care for anyone but himself. And from looking at the sun during an eclipse to dancing into the night unprotected from Covid, this is one of the most stupidest people who ever lived to be near 80.
