John Roberts explains that the reason you're pissed at the SCOTUS is that you suck, and you're f*cking stupid.

Pushing back at the suggestion that he and his colleagues are “purely political actors,” he said, “We’re not simply part of the political process, and there’s a reason for that, and

I’m not sure people grasp that as much as is appropriate.”

Roberts, who was nominated to the Supreme Court by George W. Bush in 2005, pointed out that a line is crossed when critics’ attacks become personal. “There is a point where it changes from criticism of the opinion to criticism of the judge, and it can lead to some very serious problems. As soon as you personalize, it can become problematic.”

“There’s a lot of hostility that’s publicized about judicial decisions and which judge wrote those decisions,” he said. “I think we have to be a little more careful and make sure people, to the extent you can, are more careful about that.”

The chief justice added, “I think considered criticism is a very good thing. You hope it’s intelligent criticism, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s a free country, and I certainly don’t object to it, and I don’t think my colleagues do either.”

“They come to me.” — Jane Roberts, wife of Chief Justice John Roberts.

’They come to me’: Jane Roberts’ legal recruiting work involved officials whose agencies had cases before the Supreme Court

In newly revealed testimony, the wife of Chief Justice John Roberts said she worked for “U.S. attorneys, cabinet officials, former senators” and more.

Jane Roberts, the wife of Chief Justice John Roberts, acknowledges having represented a wide variety of public officials — including senior Justice Department officials and Cabinet members — as they transitioned to jobs in the private sector, according to testimony in an arbitration hearing to resolve a lawsuit filed by an ex-colleague against her former legal recruiting business.

A partial transcript of that testimony was included in a complaint submitted to the House, Senate and Justice Department filed in December on behalf of the former colleague.

Jane Roberts’ placements included at least one firm with a prominent Supreme Court practice, according to the complaint, which also includes sworn testimony from Roberts herself, in which she notes the powerful officials — whose agencies have had frequent cases before her husband — for whom she has worked.

“A significant portion of my practice on the partner side is with senior government lawyers, ranging from U.S. attorneys, cabinet officials, former senators, chairmen of federal commissions, general counsel of federal commissions, and then senior political appointees within the ranks of various agencies, and I -- they come to me looking to transition to the private sector,” Roberts said, according to a transcript of a 2015 arbitration hearing related to her former colleague’s termination.

In her testimony, Roberts also noted the benefit of working with senior government officials: “Successful people have successful friends.”

I guess he was right because I just know that Gore, too, would also have appointed Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court, right?

How John Roberts Got to the Top

The Spectre of White Affirmative Action

By LINN WASHINGTON, Jr.
September 28, 2005, CounterPunch

EXCERPT...

Bush's selection of John Roberts for Chief Justice is a glaring example of white affirmative-action irrespective of Roberts' respected legal acumen elevating him above the ranks of an inadequately prepared candidate.

The bigot Bush designated Roberts to replace, the late William Rehnquist, at least spent fourteen years as a Supreme Court Justice before his elevation to Chief Justice.

Roberts has less than three years experience as a federal appeals court judge, getting that lofty position without having any prior judicial experience.

SNIP...

Roberts landed a plum clerkship with a federal appeals judge after his Harvard Law School graduation, followed immediately by a prestige elevating clerkship with US Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist who never hired a black law clerk.

Just Our Bill

By Dennis Roddy
Saturday, December 02, 2000

Lito Pena is sure of his memory. Thirty-six years ago he, then a Democratic Party poll watcher, got into a shoving match with a Republican who had spent the opening hours of the 1964 election doing his damnedest to keep people from voting in south Phoenix.

"He was holding up minority voters because he knew they were going to vote Democratic," said Pena.

The guy called himself Bill. He knew the law and applied it with the precision of a swordsman. He sat at the table at the Bethune School, a polling place brimming with black citizens, and quizzed voters ad nauseam about where they were from, how long they'd lived there -- every question in the book. A passage of the Constitution was read and people who spoke broken English were ordered to interpret it to prove they had the language skills to vote.

By the time Pena arrived at Bethune, he said, the line to vote was four abreast and a block long. People were giving up and going home.

SNIP…

Party leaders told him not to get physical, but this was the second straight election in which Republicans had sent out people to intellectually rough up the voters. The project even had a name: Operation Eagle Eye.

When all your rightwing buddies on the bench bring 13th century law into the court to justify misogyny, explain how that works in 21st century USA, since our constitution was written in the 18th century, overruling all laws prior to it.

If you have to verbalize a contradiction to how your court behaves and this of course, bothers you enough to bring it up, then maybe you should resign.
