Was hit by a tornado last night. Luckily no reports of any deaths. Yet, several injuries and massive damage to the area.
Over a 100 miles stretch several possible tornadoes moved thru southern areas of Mississippi.
The Weather Channel showed a mobile home park absolutely destroyed. Every home was damaged but majority of them were flattened.
Now, FEMA needs to come in and help this people who lost everything!
Oh wait! FEMA has been partially dismantled. Thanks GOBer voter! I wonder what you will do if voted for him and were affected by that storm? You need that government aid now, but decided that the government helped too many people out! Oopsie! DOGE cant help you now!

(3,840 posts)Most of the injuries so far were from the trailer park. Trailer parks and night time tornadoes don't mix at all. And I'll note, I'm getting sick of people (not you) blaming the NWS for a lack of warnings. They're slashed down to a skeleton crew nationwide, especially away from large population centers. There are many offices that have 1-2 people working when they usually had 10-15. They're literally closed at night because of staffing cuts. Its insane.
Was never a big agency. I think most weather office staff number in the dozen or so range total. They work shifts with more people drawn in during weather emergencies. So on a bad night I doubt staff working number more than half a dozen. Now you will get some support from the Storm Prediction Center and local Universities with meteorological programs.
Probably what was more devastating was the number of experienced forecasters who left the agency in 2025. You also have to consider the impacts helium shortages that have interrupted critical data collection of the vertical structure of the atmosphere. Its a lot of little perturbations that are potentially negatively affecting government forecasters at the moment.

Again, I blame the M$M for not covering this all that well. I learn more from places like this and the comment section than from reporters these days.
