I guess all of us ole folks are screwed. The young folks can immigrate to another country.

(8,873 posts)At the time of the adoptions, Irish law forbade the adoption of Irish children by any non-Irish citizen. The Roberts had a 'straw adopter' officially adopt those kids, then took them to a small South American country, I seem to recall Belize. From there, she signed over legal custody to the Roberts and they happily returned to the US with the children.
As I said, this info seems to have been well scrubbed from the internet, but up until a few years ago, it was available from very respected sources.
Roberts is dirty and probably being blackmailed along with anybody else Trump needs to keep his own ass out of jail and be allowed to engage in all the scams he thinks up.
As to offspring, only one in five of Trump's was born to a mother who was a US citizen at the time of the births.

(24,357 posts)In newly revealed testimony, Jane Roberts, the wife of Chief Justice John Roberts said she worked for U.S. attorneys, cabinet officials, former senators and more.

EXCERPT...
Jane Roberts placements included at least one firm with a prominent Supreme Court practice, according to the complaint, which also includes sworn testimony from Roberts herself, in which she notes the powerful officials whose agencies have had frequent cases before her husband for whom she has worked.
A significant portion of my practice on the partner side is with senior government lawyers, ranging from U.S. attorneys, cabinet officials, former senators, chairmen of federal commissions, general counsel of federal commissions, and then senior political appointees within the ranks of various agencies, and I -- they come to me looking to transition to the private sector, Roberts said, according to a transcript of a 2015 arbitration hearing related to her former colleagues termination.
In her testimony, Roberts also noted the benefit of working with senior government officials: Successful people have successful friends.

(37,534 posts)Do American courts enforce "Irish law"?
Or should we start bringing Russian emigres up on charges per the current Russian penal code? And Irish-Americans based on current Irish law? (Please, no. I like the freedoms I have.)
US courts, US law. I seriously do not expect Russian--or Irish--courts to enforce US law. That's not their job, their duty.

(8,873 posts)Willfully conspiring to subvert the laws of another nation in order to take children from that nation is NOT ok. Roberts should NOT be a judge, let alone the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS. But he played ball the way Family Bush wanted, and he got his reward.

(37,534 posts)So all ethnic Russians are white and that means they're American and entitled to vote.
I'm sure Putin would like to know that. Talk about 'election interference'!
Per many, ME and Latinos are "white". And most of my Latino students consider themselves in line with the older, not the newer, definition. Ponder that.

(51,261 posts)because in 1909, there was no way in hell the US Supreme Court was going to admit that Jesus Christ was anything other than white.
That court case came about because a Syrian immigrant police officer arrested a white criminal from a wealthy family. That crook's family sued on the basis that a "foreigner" (tan) couldn't arrest an "American" (white).
The case I references was In Re Najour but here's a newer case that's held up as precedent even today:

(36,644 posts)I don't want any part of where this country wants to go. Late 50s, plenty of household income - but a lot is invested so I wouldn't know where to start. It's frustrating to feel completely trapped. So far, I've just focused on trying to make life easier for my kids (who have now reached young adulthood).

If I was a young healthy unencumbered person I would be looking to get the hell out of here.

(5,177 posts)The 14th Amendment says that a person born on U.S. soil are citizens,
And the 22nd Amendment says that presidents are limited to 2 terms.
If the SCOTUS overturns one - the 14th, why not the 22nd. What fundamentally is the difference? They are related in the sense that they are both amendments to the Constitution.

(38,630 posts)The executive order only impacts people around 1 and younger (people born after the date specified in the order). They certainly aren't old enough to immigrate to another country without parents, and not being a US citizen doesn't automatically grant them citizenship elsewhere.

(2,007 posts)If the Republicans win this case then only certain people will be Americans. The rest of us are illegal aliens that ICE can deport. My matinal ancestors came to the America before the country was created so my blood line would not make me a USA citizen. Of course, there also will be tens of millions that won't be citizens and subject to ICE deportation. Don't take this situation lightly. IMHO.

A SCOTUS that invalidates the actual Constitution puts our country firmly on the road to civil war or dissolution IMO.
