Some here may be want to celebrate the death of a truly horrible person but there is a bigger picture here I would caution you about.
That is twice, in less than a year, that the US has unilaterally decided to remove another country's leader through violence.
That makes the US an existential threat to the sovereignty of any nation that the US decides it doesn't like. Think about it, the US doesn't like that France is blocking a trade treaty that heavily favors only US businesses, France will rightly believe they are in danger.
France will now believe, based on the evidence of what the US has already done, that their leader may be vulnerable to assassination or kidnapping, to remove him as an obstacle to US interests.
A country that goes around unilaterally deciding to kidnap or murder the leaders of other countries is a clear and present danger to the stability of the whole world.

Id say that non-nuclear , non-NATO countries have more to worry about than France.

(12,077 posts)We are already on the verge of war with the EU over Greenland.
It's the perfect example actually. Murder/kidnap the leader of Greenland or Norway or France to make the point that US is taking Greenland no matter what they say.
You may think it sounds crazy but 12 months ago the idea that the US would unilaterally decide to kidnap and murder another country's leader was insane.
Not only without the consultation of other world leaders but not even with the consultation and agreement of Congress.
That is the actions of a dictator, no the leader of a democracy.

(22,720 posts)As crazy as Trump is, he doesnt have the cajones to do that, and I dont think any of his advisers, including Hegseth, would support it.

(12,077 posts)Both Mango Mussolini and his cabinet have repeatedly shown their disrespect and overt hostility toward EU leaders, in everything from Greenland to cutting them out of the ongoing peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Their arrogance and audacity knows no bounds and they fully believe that NATO is worthless without them.
You are free to feel how you want but I can say with 100% confidence that the repercussions of this are going to be stark and disturbing.
With this action we fully through the majority of the world into China's camp and we will never again been seen as a trusted partner or ally.

(3,959 posts)People keep debating political strategy and calculations as if that has anything to do with it.
Trump is mentally ill. Malignant Narcissists choose war. Frontotemporal dementia makes it worse. Both conditions progress with time and are worsened by positions of power.
The diagnosis of Malignant Narcissism was created to explain Hitler. Stalin wasn't prepared for Hitler's invasion of Russia, despite warnings by US intelligence and his own generals, because it was so illogical for Hitler to attack Russia at that time.
Trump want's to play with his toys. He doesn't listen to advisers. The people around him won't stand up to him. Malignant narcissism is contagious.
I don't think we are really prepared for what could happen. We have never been here before.

With our current regime it would be welcomed by most but...

(23,612 posts)We left a vacuum in Iraq and look what happened. ISIS swept in and turned large swaths of the Middle East into nonstop executions and brutal rape.
I dont think the USA has any plan to prevent that in Iran.

(12,077 posts)My point is not to say that the Iranian leader isn't a bad person. They are.
My point is that no one country, however well intentioned, has the right to kidnap or murder the leader of another country.
Our current government is run by pedophile billionaire grifters putting Black and brown people in concentration camps, we have no moral or legal authority to dictate to others about their government or it's actions.
A government that unilaterally decides who can rule another country is not a democracy but a dictatorship.

(1,527 posts)When Gaddafi fell, Libya ended up with a huge power vacuum. Look where that end up. Also, they have to understand that the IRGC still holds the government power regardless of if Khamenei is dead or not. They aren't going to give up power that easily.

(234 posts)But I feel that if Trump outlives his usefulness to Israel, and becomes a liability to them, he might get a visit from Mossad.
I don't advocate violence, but nothing surprises me these days.

(7,680 posts)in another post. I so agree with you. Not content to bring down the US economically and socially, trump is determined to find a country that will bomb it back to the stone ages... much as Putin wants, and could never do himself.
trump is a Russian asset, a spy, and a traitor to our country. And every republican that put him back into office should be tried for the same traitorous behavior.

(540 posts)Maybe the world has just become numb to the actions of this administration, but Im sure Russia did not want to lose its well cultivated relationship with Venezuela or their drone factories in Iran. I think whatever is happening in the diplomatic back channels are beyond my pay grade.

(43,216 posts)Correction: A leader who doesn't represent 77% of a country, who goes around unilaterally deciding to kidnap or murder the leaders of other countries is a clear and present danger to the stability of the whole world and U.S. citizens.
I still believe that we are not who or what we are called.
We The People are only what We The People answer to.
We The People must hold on tight to the fact that we don't answer to this domestic and international terrorist.
angrychair
(12,077 posts)But other countries are not going to lump us in into the same pot.
We, the United States, are a terrorist nation.
To be honest there is no guarantee that even if we defeat Republicans this time that four years later we won't be right back here again.
That is exactly what other nations are faced with right now.
While some of us are good people, our country is not. And there is no guarantee that even if we vote them out that we won't be right back here..again and again and again.

(43,216 posts)the American people must use the Internet we put into the world to demand that it know we are not a monolith and that the psychopath does not and never will act in the name of 77% of Americans.
We The People ARE THE COUNTRY.
Americans are NOT who or what they are called. AMERICANS ARE ONLY WHAT THEY ANSWER TO.
THAT same principle applies to all humans.
You may not presume to drag 77% of the country into what the psychopathic leader of the 23 % is doing. Your anger is irrational -- and perhaps an emotional habit that you hyper-rationalize -- particularly in this international context.
We mustn't succumb to that.
Nor should any of us succumb to the temptation of calling all Iranians as evil as their leaders. Right? Think about it.

(8,197 posts)there are still 'horrible persons' aplenty, that the world would be better off, without.
No, this is just Trump's latest diversion. So people won't be talking about
those damning EPSTEIN FILES revelations included accusations of Trump's rape of (at least) one minor
and how is it that President Clinton and Hillary had to testify for hours, but not Trump or Melanoma, who actually knew Epstein
or how his tariff wars have failed Americans, infectious diseases are rising under his science denying quacks, and how they still have nothing by way of a substantial health care plan
not to mention their IN OUR FACE plans to "take over" the elections (based upon even more bullshiit lies) as if the very NOTION of it isn't something that should provoke widespread outrage and protests.
