I believe that we will see the end of this authoritarian catastrophe

Admittedly it is easier to break than to build, but despite the election of Trump, I think what he has wrought will be undone.

There will be gnashing of teeth and rending of garments when the Democrats use the power of the unitary executive. But our unitary executive will cede authority, and we will be annoyed, because things are going slower. But they will be on the track again, headed in the right (correct) direction.

Don't forget how fucking stoopid Trump is, and no matter how vile and evil his party, his cabinet, and his administration is, he is so dumb, so crazy, and so capricious that he will undermine his own authoritarian impulses.

Evil eats itself.

I do not want to diminish the countless people harmed by the injustice of the administration, but we would do well to remember that all things are temporary, no damage is irreparable, and that we are a blink in cosmic time. America is not the ancient states of Europe. We've never had a crusades or an inquisition, so maybe this is our version of that.

Truth, liberty, and justice cannot be contained and the more there is an attempt to bottle it up, the more potent the exhalation of freedom will be when right and good takes power again.

We will win the House in 2026, and it might even be big. We are capable of winning the Senate.

And our party will break the back of fascists as we've always done. Trump will remain a consequential president. We will never get justice in that way - him being reduced to a historical footnote, but we will turn all his acts into dust.

Sec. Clinton has a slogan on a pin I wore long after the 2016 election: "Love trumps hate".

And Liberty's torch will burn to cinders these cowards, pretenders, and sycophants. I hope it happens quickly so we can all enjoy it together.

3. My dog is close friends with a French bulldog

She is a pit/German shep mix. She's going to be 13 in a little over a week - adopted from NY Animal Care and Control. It was her last day before the bad thing when I adopted her (she was a little under 1).

She play bowed and they had a nice interaction, and my neighbor (Cuban conservative) remarked how pretty my princess dog was.

There is goodness everywhere and as hard as some try to constrain it, it always breaks free.

Amor vincit omnia, and all that shit.

There are days when I am down, angry, and feeling lost. Thankfully, for me, with my privilege, it has passed. You all, this weird parasocial forum of which I am a member, helps with that.


The hearts help, and I wanted to share my naive belief that our fight isn't in vain. Most here are a bit older (not too much) and so they have seen more battles and have every right to be more jaded and more scared.

If you were my neighbor, I'd be there to help.

I think there are a lot of bombers and a lot of Pu-239, and there is a reason to worry. But my core says this may be the end of the American empire, but it isn't the end of democracy and liberalism.



PS -- My dog, Cooper, votes Democrat. She is registered in Florida like I am and votes as many times as possible. But she is a Bronx girl, and I'm from Manhattan.

We adopted a pocket beagle last summer so our elderly tri-color would have a companion. We suspect she was used as breeder dog. It's taken time, but she now sees that she has value.

They are exceptionally cute. My dad's last beagle - Zoey - was really, really smart. I used to joke that she did calculus.

My dad, sadly, overfed her and she ended up looking like a sausage.

As I mentioned in my other posts, I have since adopted a pit/german shep mix that is my kid. She's turning 13 2/18, and is still a big puppy. She used to watch Biden's speeches (pic available upon request).

I find faith in dogs.

But not for the thousands of families torn apart, the unnecessary deaths, that kind of thing. Those are permanent scars on the mind. Slavery no longer exists, yet the damage from that history continues to this day as well as from post-slavery treatment of African Americans, to name just one thing. Native Americans. Japanese. Irish. The list goes on and on. Those scars remain and that damage is irreparable even now. Just because it has faded in the memory of many (mostly white) people doesn’t mean it’s gone.
