Here's How The U.S. Was Greeted At The Olympic Opening Ceremony Amid IOC Fears Of Booing

The U.S. team was greeted by mostly cheers (unlike Vice President JD Vance) at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Milan on Friday, but it was no sure thing beforehand.

International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry expressed concern that the ol’ Red, White and Blue might be subject to jeers at the Milan Cortina Games.

Italians were already protesting the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Olympics, even though the controversial agency wasn’t conducting immigration operations. International anger had also built over Trump administration policies, including threats to take Greenland by force and tariffs that alienated allies.

Coventry said she hoped the opening ceremony would be seen “by everyone as an opportunity to be respectful of each other.”
