I mean, okay, he busted into Venezuela and captured Maduro. Maduro was an illegitimate leader, and pretty much everyone agreed that he was a piece of shit, although obviously not everyone agreed about what to do with him. I can see how a lot of Americans would be rah-rah-rah over the action Trump took.
But now Trump is out there at a press conference seemingly making things up as he goes along. We're going to run the country. We're going to have boots on the ground. We're going to take their oil and the oil companies will pay for everything.
Rubio already said that "this is over," presumably assuming that that WAS the plan. Rubio also said, "this was just a police action." Now Trump seems to be making up strategy and policy on the fly, talking about occupying Venezuela with American troops on the ground, stealing their oil, and threatening other countries. He seems out of control and looks like he's making this shit up as he goes along.
Did Rubio know that he was going to be named joint ruler of Venezuela before this press conference started?

(59,744 posts)Belarus is a vassal state that is a lapdog stooge of Putin. Lukashenko is a slave to Putin, practically licks his boots twice daily. (42,901 posts)Socialist Republic (BSSR) in 1945. Belarus continued its membership after independence by informing the UN of its name change in 1991.
Belarus actively participates in UN activities, supports its principles, and has served in various UN bodies, though its relationship with some bodies, like the Security Council, has faced scrutiny.
So I'd say that Belarus is taking the long historical view that aligns with the majority of UN members, as it should.
From Reuters:
"The President of Belarus CATEGORICALLY CONDEMNS the act of American aggression against Venezuela. Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the consequences just recently in an interview with American journalists," Belta news agency cited Natalia Eismont, spokesperson for Lukashenko, as saying.

(100,060 posts)I have been watching this aspect of his behavior, and the artistic placement of facial fillers and new favored camera angle to try and hide, the stoke induced drooping of his face. He has a partially paralyzed tongue since this summer, you can hear it when he speaks words that use the back of the tongue... sounds slurry and drunk.
As for his upbeat demeanor, he's probably pumped up with puppy uppers and backed up with some 'happy talk' about something that cheers him up so he can perform for the cameras for a short time so we can all see he's still upright. Bet we won't actually see him for a day or three unless he's sitting behind a desk holding his hand. He's all about performing so that helps get him excited enough to go out and play his tough guy role for a few minutes.
I think it's over for him in a number of ways. I think it won't be long before we are looking at this as the start of the big change we have to make in this country by the end of the year.

(12,482 posts)Maduro is only a piece of shit if you buy into all the propaganda spewed for years about socialism in Venezuela. He was not a drug running kingpin like the one pedo Trump just pardoned. It's the fear of socialism that the filthy-rich have instilled into most Americans that makes most people anti Maduro.
But look at his replacement. A woman who wants to sell off the Venezuelan oil fields to Donny Jr. A "free" trader like Pinochet, Machado. Except for her lack of military skills and leadership abilities, she just like Pinochet. Maduro is whole lot better than she is. Do you think she's going to give Venezuelans the right to vote? No she wants to be like pedo Trump.
And now Trump is saying he's going to run Venezuela. So, does he think Venezuela is just going to roll over and do what their king or queen tells them? Nothing about voting, nothing about freedom or civil rights. Yeah, big improvement over Maduro....not.
EarlG
(23,374 posts)Along with his predecessor Hugo Chavez, Maduro did a pretty good job of ruining Venezuela. At least that's what I hear from my Venezuelan friends who grew up there. FWIW, they also think that Machado is a right-wing piece of shit, and they hate Trump too. They wanted to see Maduro gone, but they don't want to see a radical right-wing government take his place, nor do they want to see the U.S. bombing Venezuela and then running the country.
I don't think this is a situation that is divided neatly into two opposing sides.
I do agree that there is no irony lost in seeing dictator Trump crowing about freeing Venezuela from the clutches of dictator Maduro.
Farmer-Rick
(12,482 posts)Yeah, most of the filthy-rich disliked Maduro. A lot of people who loved "free" trade didn't want Maduro. Even in Venezuela the propaganda convinced many people. It's difficult to realize you're are being manipulated as you can tell from all the Americans who voted for pedo Trump.
But there was and is just so much constant anti Maduro spewed daily from everywhere that it feels like a consorted effort to decieve. There is a large contingency in Venezuela who voted and supported Maduro. I wonder what they are planning now?
I predict a civil or a guerilla war as Venezuelans unite to boot out the US.
Madura wasn't the best but he was better than Pinochet wannabe Machado. He's certainly better than anything the pedo wants to do.

(31,664 posts)Maduro was a piece of shit,,, stole the election, arrested protesters and put them in prison, and drove the economy into the dirt.
The USA didn't help matters by imposing sanctions on oil from Venezuela. I guess oil profits are only OK only if US oil companies get to keep most of the money.
But instead of using the money from oil to diversify the economy and help the people... Maduro used it to prop up his power and for his cronies.

(14,269 posts)Over Christmas it is a family tradition to rewatch the Harry Potter movies while we bake cookies and decorate the tree, etc. There are eight films so It takes several days to finish the whole series and by that time the lights are up and the packaged are wrapped, and the ham and roast beef is ready to carve. And as I watch them, it always strikes me how similar the Voldemort versus Harry scenario is to what is going on in our country. A very great number of kids grew up watching these movies snd reading the books, and when I talk to them now as young adults, I really do sense the feeling of right versus wrong and good versus evil remains strong in their characters. That perhaps what they learned in those past 30 years left a mark. I may be wrong, but I sense that when they walk into a voting booth come November, they will know which column is comprised of Death Eaters. And perhaps some good magic will occur.

The real people making the decisions are the oligarchs that send the order to the orange man on what he's to do next. (e.g. oil companies who wanted the Venezuela oil) If we don't deal with the oligarchs first, then the oligarchs will just give us another orange man, whether he's a democrat or a republican they don't care. The oligarchs will just promise the next orange man millions and billions, which is just pocket change to them, and they will do their biddings. Monopolies, Citizens United, Oligarchs THOSE ARE THE PROBLEMS, not the orange man and his family who are being enriched as long as they do as they are told.
