the least shocking thing in the epstein files that wont get enough attention. police regularly arrest and charge victims to coerce them into participating, often jailing them in conditions that are worse.

jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation

. . . very cooperative, but the police at that point had to let [redacted] know that what she had done that she could be facing charges.
Q And that was after they had told her earlier that she didn't need an attorney present, correct?
A Exactly.
Q Okay. So this happens to her with the Palm Beach Police Department and did the Palm Beach Police actually present or propose charging [redacted]?
A They did get a probable cause affidavit against [redacted].
Q And is that why Ms. [redacted] and her attorney were concerned about her testimony here?
A Yes.
Q Now was a subpoena issued for Ms. [redacted] on behalf of this grand jury?
A Yes, it was.
Q And before Ms. [redacted] would comply with that, did she -- did her attorney request some sort of order?
A Yes.
Q And what did he ask for?
A He asked for immunity for [redacted].

When we get back the government, are we going to change this? I think there's a majority of us that are sick and tired of being the short end of the stick. If we don't fix it, there is no law... and there definitely is no justice. This just makes me SO mad!

The police were formed back in the days of slavery to capture runaway slaves. It was all part of getting the constitution passed, against the wishes of the slave holding states. This is their legacy. We have to make sure it's NOT their future!

It is most likely Virginia Guiffre in play here, who bravely admitted that she participated in recruiting victims for Epstein and Maxwell, and was paid for doing so, when she was 17. Assuming hers is the redacted name, these actions would be behind her concerns about facing charges herself. Yes she was 17, but on paper she also worked for Epstein, broke child trafficking laws, and probably admitted she did so to the cops, not realizing (since she had no attorney present) that this would open her up to legal jeopardy. And at the time in play here, a LOT less was known by authorities about the whole situation.

But still, yeah, a probable cause affidavit can be used as a bargaining chip to pressure witnesses regardless of whether a warrant is actually sought, and it sucks if PBPD did so in this case

Despite the protestations above, I'm not sure we know that this was done to protect Epstein. Though it seems likely, it's not the only possibility
