and that is scary as hell. Because when the inevitable crisis happens, we will be so ill equipped as a country to deal with it that it could have Katrina/Chernobyl size ramifications. Or probably worse.

Actually more of a golf cart disaster
but when something really bad happens to us, there is only this orange crap pile to do anything about it.
The last time (Covid) half a million Americans died.

and more localized natural disasters since then (like the Texas flooding).
But it is true that there has not been a significant disaster which has impacted the entire country or even a significant area of the country at once.
