yeah yeah--too early for polls--but I would really like to see Pete Buttigieg in the Dem race.
And OMG---although probably not surprising is that VANCE would be the Repug nominee!! I really think he is meaner than Trump!!

Generate Key Takeaways
Despite being a current frontrunner to lead the Democrats in the next presidential election, California Governor Gavin Newsom is not the current favorite to win the New Hampshire primary the first that will take place in 2028.
Newsom occupies second place with 15 percent of voters choosing him as their preferred presidential candidate, losing out to former Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has 19 percent, according to a new poll.
...............
Joining Newsom and Buttigieg in the top three is New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has 14 percent, according to a very early snapshot in the University of New Hampshires poll, which was released Monday.
On the other side of the political aisle, the poll shows that Vice President JD Vance currently leads other potential Republican candidates, with a commanding 51 percent of the vote. Former presidential hopeful Nikki Haley follows, with just 9 percent.....................................................

(2,209 posts)Bernie is absolutely not going to run. He is way too old and has said over and over again he wont. I think it is reasonable to say all or most of his votes go to AOC.
Bernie shouldn't be included in any polls.

(21,822 posts)Yeah, I know their constitution says the have to be, but DNC has other ideas.
None of the top three in the poll- Newsom, Pete or AOC- will be the 2028 nominee.
If AOC runs for another office, I hope it is Schumers senate seat.
Pete and his family have moved to Michigan, so Im guessing he will run for governor - good for Michigan, and a good steppingstone for Pete for the future.

(21,822 posts)It will be a straight white male not named Shapiro or Newsom.
Right now, my sense is the donors will favor someone like Chris Murphy or Andy Beshear.
Murphy is probably the closest to an insider who looks like an outsider at times, that we can hope for.

(4,218 posts)but it *may not* be officially recognized as the "first primary" by the Democratic Party,
and I suspect that it won't be....
(Of course if the Democrats were able to gain a NH 'trifecta' and thus change that state law,
that would be a different thing...)

(20,182 posts)He will be in the pole position if that ends up being the difference in winning the House, too. Not offense intended to my Canadian friend, but I don't believe Beshear has the charisma to win the nomination. Murphy is an X factor, but a relative unknown. Would probably be better suited to round out a ticket as a VP candidate.

than a NH presidential preference poll more than two years before the election, particularly in the current political chaos.
Well know a lot more after the midterms (including if were likely to even have a 2028 presidential election
).

(4,218 posts)coming in the wake of the Trump 2.0 backlash,
seems like those 'problems' would be much less than
under more 'normal' times and circumstances....

(1,086 posts)Hes telegenic, intelligent, and a great speaker. I might even go as far as believing he can get past the homophobia. But a mayor of a small town and transportation secretary does not (imo), a president make.
I think he should prove he can win statewide somewhere. Id be more sold on him then.
I wish he wouldve been given a more cabinet post like Secretary of State. It might have raised his profile.
