I wonder, does it take a complete stoppage of ALL SPORTS to do it? Sad to say, but THAT would be the thing Americans would get more pissed about than our country being destroyed. What do you think?

(21,111 posts)First of all how would one stop all sports ?
And why do you think that would help fight back against Trump?
Simpler solution:
A year from now, the economy will be in recession, with higher unemployment and double digit inflation. If Dems dont cave and agree to the Republican proposed temporary extension (set to expire in January 2027) to the ACA subsidies, then millions will see their healthcare premiums at least double (unless republicans cave and agree to make the subsidies permanent).
Latest poll shows Dems ahead of republicans by 9% in a generic ballot. Analyses I have seen suggested, to counter gerrymandering, a margin of 3-4% percent is needed for Dems to retake the house.
Imagine what that margin will be a year from now.
Dems will still retake the house, and everyone can still enjoy sports, including watching the Jays beat the Dodgers

(26,267 posts)As I sat there and watched TV on Sat & Sun and saw all the participation of real Americans at these games - this thought occurred to me. How do we get their attention away from Sports and focused on the problem we have holding on to our Democracy.
So I posted this (see link): https://www.democraticunderground.com/100220699630
I'm curious after you've had a chance to read my post and the various responses I got - and my responses to their responses - please let me know your thoughts. Thank You!!!

(20,569 posts)Number one, NO way in hell can Democrats be blamed for anything involved with sports shut down. Kinda answers my question as well on my thread. I'm just saying that, as Americans it's too bad MOST people think more about SPORTS, than our country, constitution, court system, being torn apart. I cannot see a way to shut sports down, as i was thinking should happen. Hell, no Democrat would ever be elected again.

(26,267 posts)I'm saying this sort of tongue and cheek I know - but someone came up with the No Kings Day and look at how successful that was at getting people's attention.
My thought that such a Sport shutdown - had to come from the athlete's themselves. Surely there are many athlete's that are worried about our current situation and are patriots.
Somehow - we got to get the attention of those people that watch sports and know all the corresponding statistics associated with sports. Many get engaged in sports as a way of not having to deal with the realities of our current dire situation and the news of the day. I'm just advocating that we somehow grab their attention and get them invested in helping us solve our Tr**p problem.
We currently have a government shutdown. People - not having to acknowledge that gov shutdown have resorted to losing their thoughts into Sports.
So how about a Sports shutdown. It might even be more effective than the government shutdown because in a way it would force millions and millions of Americans to take notice and get engaged. It would permeate their very existence.
I don't know how to organize such an endeavor - but I'm sure that there are people/Americans - that can come up with ways of engaging those Americans (lost in sports) to help dig us out of this hole we're currently in.
I agree - such a shutdown - can't and shouldn't come from just Dems.
But if such a feat can be launched and be successful - don't you think - bottom line - a Sports moratorium can work?
We got to start thinking out of the box now as everyday - the situation gets worse and worse.
Maybe we need to turn Yankee Stadium or the Rose Bowl into a ballroom!!!

(20,569 posts)Not from the Democrats, period! Some how gotta make it look like it's TSF's idea. Athletic players will never agree to sports shutdown. NEVER.

(26,267 posts)Too many businesses depend on sports. Right down to bars and restaurants. Stadium vendors. Parking. Merchandise sales. Gate $'s. Teams. and the list goes on an on.
If it only was a weekend. Sat and Sun - to hit college and pro ball - that could do it.
It's not like a government shutdown that many people don't pay attention too.
Sports - touches almost everyone. From Team owners. Players and fans.
I still believe it could really be effective.
