Should the conservative majority Supreme Court hand Donald Trump the freedom to deploy the National Guard whenever and wherever he chooses, the presidents power grab will be complete and nothing will ever stop him again.
That is according to former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance, who wrote on her Substack platform, that two cases coming before the court are part of his drive to make the executive more powerful and to have that power come at the expense of the courts, Congress, and the people.
As he pointed out, there are two critical cases the court is poised to take up. The scope of presidential power to federalize and deploy National Guard troops, and Whether a presidents decision that such a move is merited is effectively unreviewable by the courts, as Trump alleges.

Well it doesn't take much imagination on what this maga unitary government court will do to give the fascist leading the party what he wants..........they did after all give the traitor a blank check on immunity.............maybe they will rule by fiat using the shadow docket......................since Roberts is basically a racist supporting hypocrite..............just look at who he clerked for William Rehnquist............the guy that was all in on Operation Eagle and caging............in fact both of them were , and my all time favorite was Bush vs Gore..............

(4,438 posts)love things that give them an air of legitimacy. Elections which are rigged, rigged courts, and a media composed of cheerleaders.

(15,045 posts)And we will continue to have elections -- like in Putin's Russia where the outcome is already determined.
The 6 traitors in black robes will be well compensated with wealth, and the only privilege they will lack is any vestige of independence or real power.
The 3 dissenters will be kept on, powerless as they are now. But likely gagged, their scathing dissents never made public.

(3,242 posts)... many of us predicted when DHS was created that we would end up with something like this. RNC plays the long game, step by step taking the U.S. of A. to hell. Ever since Prescott Bush Sr got/forced Ike into taking Nixon as his VP. Much of the blame for the ineffectual Congress we have can be blamed on Newt Gingerich and his "Contract on America". Getting "businessmen first, statesmen last", candidates into Congress, along with lots of PAC money, again, something that Nixon approved of.

(1,311 posts)I've never understood why people who have spent so much effort weaseling their way up the judicial food chain can turn around and debase themselves so grievously to Orange Julius Caesar. But then maybe that's how they got to the top of the judicial food chain in the first place, by debasing themselves grievously during their climb.

(2,570 posts)insanity will be fulfilled if we are really pinning our hopes on a supreme court that watched 1st hand the events of 6 Jan 2021... and then still gave djt immunity. I think it is safe to say john roberts idea of a 'unitary executive' falls squarely in the center of an authoritarian dictatorship.

(12,192 posts)Pedo Trump won't need them anymore. He can just grab them up, or better yet, grab up their children and loved ones if they even spit in the King's direction.
The moment the Supremes let him attack Americans on a whim with our troops, pedo Trump can just stop paying them then and there. The pedo will make them bow to him one by one. The Constitution won't matter anymore and their paid services will no longer be necessary.
How can such seasoned judges be so incapable of seeing what's right in front of their faces?

(963 posts)Some of the court may be in the Epstein files (Roberts and Thomas). Trump has a long history of threatening people by getting dirt on them and threatening to expose them if he doesnt get his way.

We have been living with this tyranny targeting blue states and Democratic norms, yet no guns, No Charlottesville or that chump humper couple who pulled out their ARs on Geo. Floyd protesters.
Peaceful has it's limits and we have already crossed many red lines, hoping the compromised repugs would put country first, not America First!
We are headed for bankruptcy.
We are already an authoritarian state.
National Strike and hope the world embargoes us.
There will be more pain.
Eventually we go to war.
