The rights anti-Indian hate problem can no longer be contained to the internet

(Salon) After a series of racist revelations and embarrassing encounters, Republicans are being confronted with the very undercurrent of extremism they have cultivated for years. Far from being confined to the fringes, the venom of hate and edgelord internet trolling that propelled President Donald Trumps return to the White House cannot be contained online and now its coming back to bite some of MAGAs top foot soldiers.
On Monday, FBI director Kash Patel posted a simple message on X to mark Diwali. The first Indian-American to lead the FBI, Patel is a practicing Hindu who took his oath of office earlier this year with his hand resting on the Bhagavad Gita. After sharing the holidays message of hope, light and goodness, the New York-born Patel faced a wave of online hate, including calls for him to Go back to India. Conservative podcaster Steven Crowder shared Patels message with Could we not? Right-wing pastor and podcaster Joel Webbons reply was more blunt: Go back home and worship your sand demons. Get out of my country. Another MAGA supporter asked why Patel was betraying Charlie Kirk.
....(snip)....
MAGA-aligned Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican candidate for governor in Ohio, faced similar attacks from the right. On Monday, disparaging comments targeting Ramawamy resurfaced from Paul Ingrassia, Trumps controversial nominee to lead the White House Office of the Special Counsel, who said in January 2024, Never trust a chinaman or Indian. NEVER. After Ingrassias comments were revealed, at least four Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota, yanked their support for the nominee, whose confirmation hearing was scheduled for Thursday. Ingrassia withdrew his nomination late Tuesday.

After being asked by another student why he masquerade[s] as a Christian, Ramaswamy, whose social media posts featuring his family are routinely flooded with racist comments, was forced to defend his faith. Im an ethical monotheist, thats the way I would describe my faith, he said. Do you think its inappropriate for someone whos a Hindu to be a U.S. president?
Another student essentially told Ramaswamy there is no room for him in Kirks movement: But isnt Charlie Kirks organization founded on Christian values as well? And isnt America based on what Protestantism is and based on how those values are? Wouldnt that contradict what your beliefs are? .....................(more)

(3,214 posts)Like Obama, Vance's children are mixed race and Republicans do not consider Obama to be white.
Vance apologized to his right wingers that his wife is not white.
Obviously, to republicans, they do not qualify for white Christian nationalism.

When Trump says his disgusting comments about immigrants 'poisoning the blood of our country', does he mean Vance's family?
Does Vance support this right wing trash?

According to them, Catholics are not Christians either.
"We need something like what Jerry Falwell did in the 1980s. We need a moral majority-made up of Christians, Jews, Mormons, Catholics and many others of faith-to come together to take a stand for our religious freedoms and rights."

Of course there are also some Catholics who say Protestants are false Christians.

(90,884 posts)Why do millions of Indians defecate in the open?
17 June 2014
It's early morning and local commuters are queuing up for tickets at the Kirti Nagar railway station in the Indian capital, Delhi.
Along the tracks, another crowd is gathering - each person on his own, separated by a modest distance. They are among the 48% of Indians who do not have access to proper sanitation.
Coming from a slum close-by, they squat among the few trees and bushes along the railway tracks and defecate in the open.
To many, this is a daily morning ritual despite the hazards of contracting diseases such as diarrhoea and hepatitis.
It can be even more hazardous for women since each time a woman uses the outdoors to relieve herself, she faces a danger of sexual assault.
A new World Health Organisation (WHO) report says more than half a billion people in India still "continue to defecate in gutters, behind bushes or in open water bodies, with no dignity or privacy".
Access to sanitation is a challenge that India's politicians want to tackle - both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promised to put an end to open defecation in their 2014 general election manifestos.
During his campaign, Narendra Modi, BJP's newly-elected prime minister, promised: "Toilets first, temples later".
