(98,336 posts)I mean, he's bullying us in every way he can think of to satisfy his hatred for us. We don't love and worship him so we must be destroyed in the ugliest ways he can imagine. He gets off on that kind of abuse. His brutal rape of girls has become his national MO. Think about it. Anyone who has been raped recognizes this trait and practice, doesn't matter what scale, the action and intent are the same.
Regarding the Epstein issues, he's trying to protect a long standing global network of slavery that has persisted even after slavery was outlawed. They find legal ways to get away with it, including going offshore or manipulating governmental entities. Why is brutal physical abuse of minors such a draw that the wealthy would pay untold sums and do horrid things in office or whatever to maintain access to victims of their whims and sexual deviance?
So starving the people he couldn't kill with covid is no big stretch when you step back a bit and take a broader look.

(5,226 posts)Had to guess the effect but it will shrink the economy in some form. But then I checked the numbers and it is "only" just under $100 billion a year, around 0.33% of our annual GDP. Now I'd guess there is a multiplier effect, as folks spend the money, then the grocers pay for the food and employees and then the food producers get paid. So the multiplier might be 3 to 5 or more times over the course of the year. Then this has the chance to reduce GDP by 2% or more in knock on effects.

(5,783 posts)How Much Do Grocery Stores Make? (Average Grocery Store Revenue Data 2025)
GRACE JIDOUNAuthor
In the ever-evolving retail landscape, grocery stores play a vital role in communities. Combined, they employ 5.5 million people annually according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and bring in 1 trillion dollars in revenue each year, via the Food Industry Association. They also face unique challenges and opportunities. The key to success in this competitive industry lies in optimizing revenue and ensuring long-term viability.
Food retail businesses operate on thin profit margins, averaging 1.6% net profit after taxes according to the Food Industry Associations 2023 report. Even though your grocery store revenue may be high, its key to control costs and improve operational efficiency to ensure you can be profitable.
Profit margins in the grocery industry are notoriously thin, typically ranging from 1% to 3% of revenue. This means that for every dollar of sales, the store keeps between 1 and 3 cents as profit after accounting for all expenses.

(16,133 posts)Maybe we will have another Harvest of Shame moment.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvest_of_Shame
"Harvest of Shame was a 1960 television documentary presented by broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow on CBS that showed the plight of American migrant agricultural workers. It was Murrow's final documentary for the network; he left CBS at the end of January 1961, at John F. Kennedy's request, to become head of the United States Information Agency. An investigative report intended "to shock Americans into action," it was "the first time millions of Americans were given a close look at what it means to live in poverty" by their televisions.
....
The opening is voiced over footage of migrant workers, including a number of African Americans, being recruited:
This scene is not taking place in the Congo. It has nothing to do with Johannesburg or Cape Town. It is not Nyasaland or Nigeria. This is Florida. These are citizens of the United States, 1960. This is a shape-up for migrant workers. The hawkers are chanting the going piece rate at the various fields. This is the way the humans who harvest the food for the best-fed people in the world get hired. One farmer looked at this and said, "We used to own our slaves; now we just rent them."
.....
The program originally aired just after Thanksgiving Day in November 1960. The December 5, 1960 edition of Time quoted producer Lowe as saying,
We felt that by scheduling the program the day after Thanksgiving, we could stress the fact that much of the food cooked for Thanksgiving throughout the country was picked by migratory workers. We hoped that the pictures of how these people live and work would shock the consciousness of the nation.
....
Murrow's closing words are these:
The migrants have no lobby. Only an enlightened, aroused and perhaps angered public opinion can do anything about the migrants. The people you have seen have the strength to harvest your fruit and vegetables. They do not have the strength to influence legislation. Maybe we do. Good night, and good luck.'

(130,072 posts)As the federal government shutdown stretched into late October 2025, social media users warned of potential disruptions to the federal government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which provides food benefits to millions of low-income Americans.
On average, SNAP provides $188 per month, or about $6 per day, in benefits to help seniors, people with disabilities and families purchase household food staples.
One TikTok user (archived) claimed SNAP benefits, often referred to as "food stamps," would not be issued in November 2025 due to the ongoing shutdown, citing notifications from the federal government and individual states. A similar claim circulated on Instagram (archived), where a user alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump's administration decided not to issue food stamps in November.
Warnings like these prompted multiple Snopes readers to search our website for information about November SNAP benefits.
