His answer is that the nation is fundamentally not based on the idea of equality or freedom or any other ideal. Nor is it accessible to people of all races and religions. It is fundamentally, he told an assembled crowd, a white homeland.
The white Europeans who settled America and conquered the West “believed they were forging a nation—a homeland for themselves and their descendants,” he said. “They fought, they bled, they struggled, they died for us. They built this country for us. America, in all its glory, is their gift to us, handed down across the generations. It belongs to us. It’s our birthright, our heritage, our destiny. If America is everything and everyone, then it is nothing and no one at all. But we know that’s not true. America is not a ‘universal nation.’ ”
The implications of this vision are serious. This is a repudiation of our Constitution and the core of a national identity that includes all its citizens. It means that to be American is not about citizenship at all. “What is an American?” Schmitt asked. It is a white person. America is a white homeland that organically binds together white people of the past, present and future. And its policies must be guided for their benefit if they are to succeed.

Got it? It was necessary for the strong whites to flee (like brave hares) the lily livered weaklings because strength always flees weakness. They were, indeed, lucky to get out of there before they, themselves, turned into effeminate avocado toast eaters.
It was also necessary for them to kill off -- slaughter, in point of fact -- native Americans because the savages didn't believe in Jesus. On the other hand, if the savages "accepted" Jesus, the white strong people had to kil them because they were weak and gave in to fear and sought to escape slaughter by "converting."
And it was also the love of Jesus and love for Jesus that caused them to flee the horrible oppression in Europe. And that is why all Christians in America -- white Christians -- joined together in love and only burn the churches of Catholics and other so-called Christians who wanted to live according to the rules of their horribly corrupt so-called Christianity.

I'd like the Trump administration and Republican Party, which claims to care so much about anti-semitism, to explain these comments from the senators from Missouri:
This year, Schmitt, a sitting senator, outdid them both. Schmitt opened by reiterating the antisemitic tropes of his senior colleague. America is threatened by the “elites,” he declared, “who rule everywhere but are not truly from anywhere.” This is the “rootless cosmopolitan” trope at the heart of modern antisemitism. They serve “global liberalism” and “global capital” and support mass migration, he continued, a nod to the “great replacement” theory, which blames Jews for replacing white Americans with nonwhite immigrants.

(27,360 posts)When they moved here, it was learned that they had adopted a black son. The town was up in arms, and before the first semester of school was over, they were informed that their contract would not be renewed for another year. They were literally run out of town.
in the aftermath of the George Floyd murder, my mother told me that in the early 1920s, before she was born, hr father (my grandfather) had participated in lynching a black man in rural mid-Missouri. She didn't know details, had only heard it from her older sister late in life. I have no facts to substantiate the story, or to disprove it. But in Missouri, the racism does indeed run deep.

I think this utterly repulsive bit could be used in schools to pacify the white christian nationalists' attempt to edit actual history. For indeed, there is an important truth held within it. It captures the mentality of those who sought to remove the human beings that already had lived here, on this land, for thousands of years. It is the exact same self-righteousness that allowed the good white christians to "own" African people to do the heavy lifting, and make those white christians comfortable.
It is the same sick thinking that we confront today. Teach that, along with the history of everyone else in America.

When he says, "They fought, they bled, they struggled, they died for us". I see it as referring to those people they killed while forging a "white" nation. They died because of them.
He's right on one point, this is “A strong, sovereign nation—not just an idea but a home, belonging to a people bound together by a common past and a shared destiny.”
The common past is humanity, and it is defined by the 5 races that share this common past.
To claim sovereignty as being the right of white Europeans is literally "white washing" history.
This is a Satanic, anti-Christian claim on Senator Schmitt's part. But it fits right in with project 2025.
It an attempt to put a "moral" justification on immoral actions.

You speak „American?“ Which one? Navajo? Hopi? Cherokee? Lakota? Tlingit? Seminole? THOSE are American languages.
Sure, some European languages are widely spoken in the Americas. There are parts of Europe that speak non-European languages, too (Hungary, e.g.).

So, his stupid wish for a white homeland is just an idea too, a Nazi idea. It's not reality. It was especially not a white homeland when we beat the crap out of Hitler and his Nazi Army.
He needs to go back to Germany to find his long dead and lost white Nazi homeland. The US never was a white homeland and never will be.

(1,095 posts)As an amateur genealogist, I've learned that my German and Irish ancestors came to America from the 1850s to the early 1900s. I always thought that this time in history was the earliest my ancestors appeared in the U.S. I was wrong. On my mother's side I am related to Jonathan Hager, one of the settlers of Hagerstown, MD in the 1760s. By birth (and by marriage -- yes, my husband I are 10th cousins -- the horror!) I am related to one of the fathers of the Virginias, Thomas Farley, who settled in Virginia in the 1620s. I am also related to settlers of the first Swedish colony in the US (in Pennsylvania) c 1638.
Does my more recent immigrant ancestry make me less American? Does my earlier immigrant ancestry -- i.e., having "forefathers" -- make me more American? It's all absolute and complete b.s. I am here thanks to those that came before, but in no way does this entitle me to more than my Brazilian daughter-in-law who just passed her citizenship test and interview and is awaiting her swearing in ceremony. I am sick nigh unto death of these entitled separatists who think because their "daddies" and "granddaddies" did such and such they deserve more than anyone else. That these words came out of the mouth of a high-level elected official is shocking, but not surprising. These beliefs have been around for a long time. The orange dictator just made it ok for those of Schmitt's ilk to crawl out from under their rocks and spew their racist filth.
God, I hope the midterms happen.

A long time ago, i was searching for small gifts to take abroad to give the family of a student we hosted. It was a long fruitless search. Most of the things we treasure are not symbols of white American culture. Look at the food we eat. Listen to the musical genres that have either shaped musical trends or dominate popular hits.
Calvin Coolidge was right: "The business of America is business." We have lost our heart and soul worshipping the wrong god.
