During a White House press conference February 24, Trump was asked about trade between the US, Mexico, and Canada.

"I mean who can blame them if they made these great deals with the United States, took advantage of the United States on manufacturing, on just about everything - every aspect that you could imagine they took advantage of," he said.

"I look at some of these agreements and I say who would ever sign a thing like this. The tariffs will go forward, yes. We’ll make up a lot of territory. Our country will be liquid and rich again."

Trump made those agreements and signed “those things” during his first term.

Memory lapse #2

Complaining about the Chairman of the Federal Reserve , Jerome Powell, not agreeing with his economic plan, Trump said the following:

“He’s a terrible, he’s a terrible fed chair. I’m surprised he was appointed, I was surprised frankly that Biden put him in and extended him.” 

It was Trump who appointed Powell during his first term.

Trump has learned that he can lie with impunity. The GOP, the media, and MAGA don't call him out on it.

I do think that there is something going on with his cognitive functioning. I don't know if it is age-related decline but it is clear that Trump is quite lazy about reading factual information and committing it to memory. He just doesn't seem to care about facts and tends to wildly exaggerate certain data, such as his popularity, the decrease in drug prices, etc.

I think we are looking at a combination of both issues.

in which something he currently sees as a problem has to have been someone else’s fault. Even if it really was his fault. And even if his current position on the issue is wildly different from a previous position he held on the same issue.
