Global birth rates are falling, and many on the right want you to get out there and breed for the good of the U.S. of A.
Let me say very simply, I want more babies in the United States of America, Vice President JD Vance said at an anti-abortion rally in January.
But new polling finds that most Americans do not share his concern about declining birth rates. What they are concerned about, though, may be one of the reasons for lower birth rates: the budget-busting price of becoming a parent and raising a kid. And they largely disagree with Vances idea of how to fix it.
Just 28% of Americans say declining birth rates are a major problem, according to a new survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Meanwhile, 44% say its a minor problem, and 27% consider it no problem at all.

They plan to put your kid to work as soon as they're old enough to walk.

Wonder Why

(9,984 posts)The Republicans and Conservatives have weird ideas about how to increase birth rates. Theyve cut support for funding rural hospitals, cut child tax credits, cut funding for day care, cut Head Start and child nutrition programs, attacked funding for NGOs that support the health of expectant mothers and their offspringpre- and post-birth!
I see no reason to believe that their agenda would help those struggling American families outside the thin strip of billionaire and multi-millionaire households and I hope that most Americans see through the right-wing sham.

(2,768 posts)why it's none of his business.
People shouldn't he having children if they can't afford the money and time to dedicate, and it's not up to government and other taxpayers to fund it either.

(16,114 posts)I don't give a fuck what the Republicans want. Keeping women barefoot and pregnant keeps women submissive and in need of a "man" to take care of them. That's their ultimate goal.
Two kids. Correct ratio of parent to child. Good for the planet. Easier to afford.
You can argue with me all you want, but I've felt this way my whole life, and there is no one who is ever going to change my thinking. It is irresponsible to "Duggarize" the planet. We've seen how screwed up those kids are now that they are old enough to speak publicly. Too many kids equates to the older ones having to raise the younger ones. Nothing wrong with children learning responsibilities, but too much responsibility shouldn't be put on older children because the parents are spread too thin.
Flame away.

(733 posts)what it comes down to. Whenever I hear republicans complain about fertility it's basically them complaining about white fertility. The irony is that their awful economic policies have caused low white fertility.
