New congressional town hall planned for James Comer. Will it be another no-show?

Tona Barkley and the group she cofounded in Frankfort have questions for their congressman, U.S. Rep. James Comer.

They have questions about what he's doing to battle corruption in Washington, D.C., now that President Donald Trump has taken over for ex-President Joe Biden, who was frequently targeted by the House Oversight Committee he chairs. They want to ask about what they see as threats to democracy, Barkley said, and some of the proposals included in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" that's passed the House and awaits a vote in the Senate.

So, Barkley and Capital Indivisible invited Comer to a town hall on July 1 in Frankfort. But they expect the seat they've offered him to be empty — despite "cordial" interactions in the past with his Kentucky-based staff, Barkley said, the group hasn't received a response to its invitation.

"We have been going to his open office hours and making comments and inviting him to a town hall, asking him what would be a good time for him, and we've had zero response," she said. "So we just decided to go ahead and schedule it, and we'll do one of those with or without him."

This isn't the first time in recent months that Bluegrass State political groups have called on Comer to meet with them in person — and he's not the only congressman to face similar calls.

"We have been going to his open office hours and making comments and inviting him to a town hall, asking him what would be a good time for him, and we've had zero response," she said. "So we just decided to go ahead and schedule it, and we'll do one of those with or without him."

And he's not the only one. My despicably spineless congresscritter (Ben Cline, VA-06) held one, in ruby-red Waynesboro, and it was such a disaster when he was called out by one of his own that he's never doe it again

a couple of sitting Congresspeople from nearby districts and/or potential candidates in that district's next election to attend and if/when the Repug noshows they could then offer to answer the questions that the Repugs wouldn't face.
