270 dead in Texas Hill Country. 109 found dead and 161 missing. Killed by Fox News/Republican thinking

Hey Kerr County here is 5 million $s to stop flash flood tragedies. Republicans in Kerr County
in 2021, “No thanx the money is from Biden.” Although the local Republican officials kept “that
dirty Buden money” anyway. They just didn’t spend it on a flood warning system.

Those little girls @ the summer camp died because of Republican thinking. No wonder they
need to rig elections because they are at their core unAmerican and refuse to understand that
Fox News, the right wing on many levels, and those bought and paid for whores from the fossil
industries, and Christo Fascist are lying to them.

“Today’s not the day and now’s not the time to discuss the warnings, who got them, who didn’t got them. Right now I’m only worried about public safety,” Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said Monday during an emergency session of the county commissioners court.

Right out of the NRA’s playbook after a mass shooting …. “Now is not the time to talk about gun laws.”

How about a little self-reflection on the destructive policies of the GOP? But nope. If you say anything you’re “politicizing it”.

A flood plain should tell you the area floods so a warning system was the right thing to do
and “they” stopped that.

Really smart hydro geologists, engineers, ecologists, and scientists had a design for a
warning system ready to be installed but Republicans stopped that from happening.

They see taxes as their money even after they may or may not have paid them and then they resent what they still consider their money going to help others who's "values don't align with theirs".

Seriously, that's it in a nutshell.

How do we counter this? It's pervasive, even among some who consider themselves Democrats.

All back too themselves. All the people who live there who would not do the hard part of being good neighbors. They are at fault.
The people who just had to build or camp on the flood plane.
They will do it again. The camp will be rebuilt just there and the campers will be back at the bank of the river.

I see repugs often blame the deaths of innocents on democrats. Using their own politically biased reasoning. We don't need to mimic their behavior for this awful natural disaster. Please note that the river rose by over 26 feet in less than one hour. At around 2:00am in the morning. Just saying...

It's taken from John's recent podcast. It's long, so I cannot post it all, but here is some of it....

Texas, the Flood, and the Very High Cost of ‘Small Government’

You know what’s more offensive than politicizing a tragedy? Refusing to prevent the next one.

Let’s talk about what just happened in Texas. Last Friday, flash floods ripped through Central Texas, killing well over 100 people—including 28 children. It’s the deadliest natural disaster to strike the region in a century. Girls are still missing. Families are still waiting.

The New York Times reported that crucial positions were vacant at the local National Weather Service offices. Meteorologists, hydrologists—people who literally issue flood warnings and work with local authorities—just not there. Why? Staffing shortages. Budget cuts. Millionaire-at-birth narcissists gutting the federal government until it bleeds.

These are the exact people whose job it is to communicate with local emergency managers. AccuWeather’s chief meteorologist said it outright: “Evacuations could have reduced the fatalities—if officials had heeded warnings from both public and private sources.”

Now, after decades of building a world-class forecasting system, we watched it fail. Because it was sabotaged. Not by God. Not by nature.

By the party of “deregulate everything,” of “privatize disaster relief,” of “faith-based emergency planning.”

By the same reality TV performer who sharpied a hurricane path on a weather map in 2019 just took a chainsaw to NOAA, the NWS, and the very people whose job is to save lives before disaster strikes.

By the people who think weather warnings are woke.

By the people who spent last Fall exploiting the horrors of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina to bludgeon a Democratic president.

The rest is here, on Substack, which means you might need to subscribe (and can for no charge) to read all of it. Psst! I posted it all on my blog.

I had a brother who lived in Texas who believed in miraculous cures and that God wanted him to be rich. He died of cancer. He died poor.

What’s going on in Texas is superstition wrapped up in religion: We can build a summer camp on a flood plain because God will protect us. We don’t need to spend money on a warning system because God will protect us.

It’s just so common for the evangelical crowd to think things can be true if only they believe hard enough.

More than 130 people are dead after devastating flooding in the Texas Hill Country that began early on the Fourth of July. More than 160 people are missing.

Thanx to DUer Malaise for posting this.

*******
In 2021 you had mouth breathers in Kerr County, TX turning down what might be 10 million $s
for a flood warning system because “Joe Biden is a communist who can’t be trusted.” Direct
quote. Listening to Fox News, (there like) their Christo Fascist Pastors, local republicans,
the Governor and Lt. Governor, the likes of Ted Cruz has its costs, web sites (loaded with Russian
misinformation such as don’t get vaccinated), and the fossil fuel industries has its costs.

Our reality. From Chasing Ice. Warm air holds more water.
