A celebration of hope

This morning, we added 28 new citizens to the nation. The naturalization ceremony welcomed people from 15 countries, and included speeches from other new citizens whose own ceremonies were a few years ago. I wasn't able to attend, but I teared up anyway while reading the newspaper account.

And, yes, the thought occurred that it is rather amazing, given everything that's happening regarding immigration, that these people who struggled to come here and studied to stay here, stayed focused on the vision of America that drew them here. It's no small thing that their hope for a better life with us is still strong. May we prevail over the ugliness of ICE and prove worthy of that hope.
