That nobody thinks about anything but how they are going to pay it. "Do I work more hours ... Do I get money from my family... Do I set up a OF account..."
Nobody regular can make a living anymore in regular job. JFC this is why nobody has time to resist this crazy shit.

(745 posts)Horrible what is going on. I have friends who are landlords. They raised their rent to a ridiculous price. I asked them how they would feel if their daughter's rent was increased to the same amount. They said it wouldn't be right. I know some other people who only accept cash for rent so they don't have to show the income. This whole industry needs to be toppled.

(3,654 posts)Have the rent on your mind from the time you wake up until you go to sleep. It's got to be intentional it's a driving force. It keeps people from resisting any of this this crazy horrible shit. They have broadcasted that fact that if you protest you will be subjected to prosecution and jail.
We are all living in in a post 2024 world.

(1,362 posts)about all the new apartments and condos that had gone up, and the owners/developers cited in the article were griping that nobody was renting/buying said units. The comments to it were brutal: " Duh!" and "Lower the damn rent!" were two of the politest comments in response.

(2,050 posts)...I also remember living in Orlando in a apartment building run by the owner
on the first floor. The Apartments where fairly small, had small kitchen..bathroom in the halls (4).
The rent per week was $15.50 No shit, one sixth of my take home pay.
My husband and I now own a one acre land/house. Paid for.
NOW...Jesus Christ, I don't know how-in-the-hell you much younger people make your rent/housing.
I feel for you..really do.

(8,033 posts)And they sell that to landlords as a plus because if you can make more money by renting less units at a higher price per unit then why incur the management costs of renting more units at a lower price. It creates artificial shortages for consumers to keep per unit prices higher. It's sort of evil genius. I think it also incentivizes the flipping of large complexes to operators unprepared for operating at full capacity to think all they have to do is fill all the empty units. Something is definitely going on in that regard. I've been around it. It feels destabilizing from a social perspective, but I can't really express the lived experience of it well.

(165,369 posts)when rents are too high, it forces more people into a unit, which means more wear and tear
hey lately I have noticed way more empty units than usual (I walk a lot around my area at night so it's easy to tell)
