No, grazie: Bezos' billions can't buy his dream Italian wedding

Let’s all collectively shed a single tear for billionaire Jeff Bezos and his betrothed Lauren Sanchez, whose dreams of a picture-perfect Italian wedding are crushed.

Thanks to the protesters who tirelessly took to the streets and canals of Venice, the filthy rich couple have been forced to relocate some of the festivities to a shipyard.

A group named No Space for Bezos successfully strong-armed the Amazon founder out of using the 14th-century Grande Scuola Misericordia, a centrally located venue, by planning to form a blockade in the canals around the event on June 28.

“We won! The protest managed to ruin Bezos’ plans and Mayor Brugnaro’s palace games,” the group said in a post obtained by CNN. “They were forced to flee and take refuge in Tese 91 of the Arsenale. Even Bezos’ two yachts, Koru and Abeona, will not arrive in Venice.”

believe me, the Arsenale is NOTHING compared to where the original party was meant to be held, which is a glorious building with astounding art. The Arsenale? It's where ships were built, rope made, sails made : no comparison.

While I lived in Venice, Gianni Agnelli bought my theater and orchestra for an evening for his guests. Agnelli bought all the water taxis for the days he and his guests were in Venice. We, the "orchestrale", just thought it was all rather amusing and silly.

Remember the movie, The Glass Onion, where the smug billionaire antagonist was able to borrow the Mona Lisa?

This is a great story! I was an event planner before I retired, and I cannot fathom what theirs is having to do to transform a shipyard into a venue that the client will be pleased with at the last minute.

sweat shops because people were keeling over from the heat. If you can buy Venice, pay your taxes, hire more people and pay them all more money . Another uber rich geek who bought himself a wife, who bought herself her boobs and her "beauty" and forgot what life SHOULD be about. Let's see how long this coupling of the superficial lasts.

At one point, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, it was so common for employees to suffer from overheating at an Amazon warehouse due to the lack of air conditioning that an ambulance was kept waiting outside. Amazon employees are also subjected to relentless time pressure and surveillance, receiving text message warnings if they are unproductive for even a couple minutes. When they don’t work fast enough, they are fired.

Elmer Goris spent a year working in Amazon.com's Lehigh Valley warehouse, where books, CDs and various other products are packed and shipped to customers who order from the world's largest online retailer.

The 34-year-old Allentown resident, who has worked in warehouses for more than 10 years, said he quit in July because he was frustrated with the heat and demands that he work mandatory overtime. Working conditions at the warehouse got worse earlier this year, especially during summer heat waves when heat in the warehouse soared above 100 degrees, he said.

He got light-headed, he said, and his legs cramped, symptoms he never experienced in previous warehouse jobs. One hot day, Goris said, he saw a co-worker pass out at the water fountain. On other hot days, he saw paramedics bring people out of the warehouse in wheelchairs and on stretchers.

During summer heat waves, Amazon arranged to have paramedics parked in ambulances outside, ready to treat any workers who dehydrated or suffered other forms of heat stress. Those who couldn't quickly cool off and return to work were sent home or taken out in stretchers and wheelchairs and transported to area hospitals. And new applicants were ready to begin work at any time.

This is obscene. Bezos pays about 1 percent in Federal taxes in the US. How much is yours?

The environmental damage to Venice and the surrounding area is obscene. All those yachts and private jets in such a fragile city?

Imagine your downtown or entertainment area closed to the public for 3/4 days because some rich bozo “alien” wants to get married?

Good on the Venetians for standing up for their beautiful city!👏

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's Venetian wedding continues to be targeted by local protestors. On Wednesday, June 25, protestors placed a dummy in Bezos’ likeness in a Venice canal. The dummy, which clutched onto a large rectangular Amazon box and held fistfuls of cash, was dressed in a blue Amazon worker’s jumpsuit.

By passing the bill that gives massive tax cuts because they don’t want to pay their fair share so they can spend more on their fantasies. This display is obscene and we should be protesting as well as they’re trying to jam this bill down our throats. Thank you Venice for showing us how to do it 🌺
