Donald Trump Lashes Out After CNN Reports On Intel That U.S. Bombings Only Set Back Iran's Nuclear Program

UPDATED, with Trump comments: President Donald Trump lashed out Tuesday after CNN and other outlets reported that an early intelligence assessment concluded that the U.S. strikes on Iran did not fully destroy the country’s nuclear program and likely set it back by only a few months.

CNN, citing four sources briefed on the intelligence, was the first to report on it today. Their report was quickly followed by other news outlets including the New York Times and ABC News.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “FAKE NEWS CNN, TOGETHER WITH THE FAILING NEW YORK TIMES, HAVE TEAMED UP IN AN ATTEMPT TO DEMEAN ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MILITARY STRIKES IN HISTORY. THE NUCLEAR SITES IN IRAN ARE COMPLETELY DESTROYED! BOTH THE TIIMES AND CNN ARE GETTING SLAMMED BY THE PUBLIC!”

But reporters for other outlets, including the Associated Press, Reuters and NBC News, continued to confirm CNN’s reporting. Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin reported that the assessment was “that the Iran nuclear program could be back on line in a matters of ‘months’ from 1-2 months on the low end to less than a year on the high end.” She wrote that it was “a preliminary intelligence assessment and is deemed ‘low confidence,’ in intelligence parlance.”
