I've always assumed not. The Jewish demonstrations in NYC, "Not in our name," reminded me of the culture I felt in college. People who were too civilized to let political forces dictate their interpersonal relations. I'm just wondering if Mamdani's election (assuming the ranked choice works and the Dems win the general) will signal more racial tension. I mention college just because I don't currently live in a very diverse milieu.

Mamdani getting more than 1,600 votes in AD48 which is mostly the Orthodox neighborhoods of Borough Park and Midwood.
Most NYer's like me are very happy today.

(3,962 posts)2. In my family we have (or had) members of most major religions.
Some were partners who stayed "family" after the partnership broke up (and we welcomed their new partners). Similarly, my WWII dad had war brothers who were frequent visitors. I was insulated from the blanket online hate that I have encountered in my old age.
