Iran's foreign ministry says nuclear facilities 'badly damaged' by US strikes

"Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the country’s nuclear installations were ‘badly damaged’ by US airstrikes, the Associated Press reported, though he didn’t provide further detail.

This is the first time Tehran has acknowledged damage caused by US strikes on its nuclear facilities that took place over the weekend. The comments came hours after US President Donald Trump disputed a US intelligence report that said the attacks didn’t cripple core components of Iran’s nuclear program below ground.

Of course Iran will say their nuclear program was damaged or wiped out or whatever. The last two weeks virtually guaranteed that Iran will do everything it can to build a bomb.

But we do have to understand that there are always reasons of self interest behind these statements, and no blame implied. This is war. The statements are clues, but shouldn’t be taken as reflective of facts on the ground. Iran wants the bombing to stop. The stories of how they removed the enriched uranium to various secret sites weren’t helping. To say the bombed sites weren’t as badly damaged as our leader insists they were invites more attacks. I don’t know anything about what’s really occurred, but it is useful always to consider what is behind the public stance.
