They lived long lives in post-war Germany. Many were recruited into the security apparatus for both West and East Germany, especially during the 1950s. Others went back to their ordinary jobs as a carpenter, factory worker, or firefighter. The real reckoning with a lot of the actions of ordinary Germans - both in police battalions and Wehrmacht - didn't really come until the 1980s, and even then a lot of them walked away.
