3. I was hoping for pins: a zircon for joining. Every five years after a gemstone like a diamond, ruby, saffire, emerald ..

The gems don't have to be large, say a half carat.

We also had pins in HS debate and forensics, you joined the NFL (National Forensics League) and got a pin with a fake ruby.

6. I still have my NFL pin (debate). I think EarlG is above fake gems. Even Amway dealers get real gems!

He convinced myself and a co-worker to sign up and buy the starter kit for a 50 cent an hour raise, not expected to come to meetings or actually sell any product...well, he lied and demanded we attend meetings...I quit and went on to other things.
Also, years before that when I was in college my girlfriend's roommate convinced us to go from Winfield, KS to KC, MO on a charted bus to the national Amway convention being held there...It was weird but we got some good food in KC at the renowned Gold Buffet....My Amway stories....

By the seventies it was a different company. They were selling "distributorships" and using product to find prospects to recruit in to distributors.
It became impossible to buy product. We'd never be able to buy more than twice from any distributor because they'd recruit some suckers and they no longer carried product, it became catalogue sales.

Good product, scammy company. I don't want to sell memberships, I just want a good detergent.

I would go to their big meetings, because their motivational speakers were good and I enjoyed the places they were held at, and the restaurants were always pretty good, and almost always some double ruby distributor would treat to demonstrate how successful they were.



Funny, I don't have any of my service decorations, but I do have a small Navy service pin you'd need a microscope to read, and that NFL pin.
