It's not just Massie, MTG, and AOC. The US has a serious problem with authorizing military action

There's been a lot of news lately about congresspeople making statements and supporting legislation limiting the president's power to start wars. Trump is out there attacking Massie and AOC. But Massie, AOC, and even MTG are not the problem when it comes to presidential war powers. This situation has been screwed up for a LONG time, possibly even into the 1800's.

Congress wants a bigger say in how the country goes to war. A recent example of this is the overwhelming support for revoking the Iraq AUMF, but congress wasn't able to get it over the finish line and the AUMF is still on the books.

One big part of the problem is the sitting president, and the party in power doesn't want to take power away from the president. But this is an issue with major disagreement that doesn't fit cleanly within political lines. It's an issue that desperately needs debate and resolution. It's possible that congress ends up in the same place, but we will continue to see these nasty fights and claims of illegitimacy until this is resolved.
