Is it a political site? Of course it is, but , we are supposed to be Democrats. Which means, we are tolerant people.
Too many " i hate Trump " posts here. I, in my life of 64 years, only truly hate, 1 person.
Hate is the exact opposite of Love.the 2 can't coexist.
How hard was it to say, the first time, think back, I love you.
How easy was it at same time , scream , I hate you? Prolly at your parents
You are over 19 now, you are i assume, Democrat,
It's ok, and it takes work, toss out your hate, and just love.
You don't need to love everyone, but don't let your hate, come here.
This is quickly becoming a hate site. Hottest topics , right now,
T gets busted. T humiliated, TTT
I use the sub forums, there is a bit more love there.
Stop rec the hate posts, and they will no longer be on front page.

The beauty and functionality of DU is simple and it's on the banner headline at the top of every DU page:
Friendly forums for passionate Dems!
There are rules and guidelines administered by the site and its members.
To be clear, I HATE Trump, the MAGAs and the GOP in general. In fact, I've hated them most of my life because of their evilness, bigotry and greed.
You are welcome to your own path.

A right to hate HATE itself.

(1,822 posts)Well I've been in rehab for 7 days and go home tomorrow. It affected my balance and coordination. I'm alone at home with no family so it's a struggle. This is my fourth stroke plus I have polymyositis. So it's been a year and a half of struggle. And I just have to keep plugging along. But I will admit that the politics stuff is just becoming too much of a negative for me and I just don't know that I can be coming on here much longer because of trump. It's just too negative in the world right now. But you guys are great! I have to have quite a few heart procedures done. And this is difficult for me because I was world class athlete and super strong and all of that has left me now. So it's a struggle mentally even as much as physically.

Politics itself is negative. I think we all come here because we feel responsible to be aware of it and to do what we can, but right now your responsibility is to care for yourself. Let us know how you fare, but only do what helps you.

(66,654 posts)I was fortunate, in another century, when I was 38 (too close to half my life ago) I had a heart attack in my doctors office (I was there for a sore left shoulder). When they let my then 3 and 2yr old daughters into the ICU (I'd never heard of children ever being allowed to visit ICU), I realized I had made a terrible mistake, that I was not going to have another. But I was going to hand out a few. Nothing like having to be in a situation where you might be saying good-bye to your young children to wake one up and realize I needed to grasp the seriousness of it. The ambulance ride from my doctors office to a hospital I could see from his office window was my first hint. A two or three block ride I don't remember, and becoming aware in ICU might have been clues, too.
I was fortunate, mine was an infected heart sack that cause my heart to enlarge. I recovered with only a leaky valve. I hope you get 10 times my incredible luck.

(1,822 posts)I'm in Chicagoland. I'm sorry for what you went through. All my problems except the polymyositis stems from heart issues that the hospital tried to fix with medication instead of simple procedures. Now it's too late. This is the problem when you don't have family to fight for you.

I ask you, in all seriousness, which things should we be tolerant of?
First let's establish the dictionary definition: allow the existence, occurrence , or practice of (something that one does not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.
Should I tolerate the genocide on the Gaza strip? We are tolerant, right? I cannot love or be neutral about all those folks dying.
Should I tolerate the reason many died because of the mishandling of Covid? All those folks dying for no reason?
Should I tolerate the orange one or any man grabbing my pussy? I am a rape survivor, after all. Maybe I should tolerate it and not stop it.
Should I tolerate our constitution being destroyed? Not try to stop it, since that is what tolerate means?
What about tolerating/not stopping someone who says liberals need to die? I voted against that particular office runner last election. I would give you his name but I have a brain injury. He was a preacher in NC and he even ran on doing away with abortion, after his wife had one. Maybe I should have tolerated him and not voted against him. After all, why would I want to hate having open season on me? I should love.
The list is too long to go through all the things they have said or done. Picking out any one of these things is horrifying to me. Being tolerant of everything makes me want go puke. That is not what Democrats are. We stand up for what is right and fight for what isn't. I never want to be a person of such low moral character that when I see a person being kidnapped off the streets, that I would not hate it is speak up about it. To me, that is the opposite of what we are about.
I do not often hate people. I have been raped. My mother embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from me and my extended family. When I joined their suit against her, she disowned me for life. My dad tried to choke me to get me out of the way, so he could go after my husband, in what he perceived as a slight. I was naked, except for a blanket wrapped around me. I was pregnant and had to go to the Dr the next day, to see if my son was still alive. When my dad left the house, he said he would come back.with a gun. I shut my blinds for years, knowing he was violent. I did not hate any of them. But I did not have to fight them.
The rump regime has done really bad things to a lot of folks. When you ask me to love them, it is the same to me as asking to love Hitler. Would you show me the death camps and ask me to love Hitler? It is also impossible for me to love or tolerate someone and fight them. We have to fight this menace every step of the way. I have never loved someone and found enough burn in my heart to fight them.
You say hating someone is easy? Maybe for the other side. Maybe for a lot of folks. Maybe for you. For me, not liking someone, or hating them, is not easy. You use as an example a child saying they hate their parents. That is usually something said out of rebellion or in the moment. It isn't real hate. It takes a lot to hate. As an adult, it takes a lot to push me to the point of hate. I imagine everyone here did not just hate him the first time they heard his name. For a well rounded adult, it can take a lot for someone to truly convince you to hate them. What does it say about a person that so many have him? That he is misunderstood, or people have a plethora of reasons to hate him? Maybe the majority is right. Maybe there is a reason they feel this way. A good reason.
Trump is trying to burn America down. He is surrounded by arsonists who support him. Which one of these arsonists, trying to destroy our country, would you have me tolerate/not try to stop? Which of these arsonists are you asking me to love?

However I can tell you that Trump makes me angry when I see what he has done to our country - which is another thing altogether.
We can channel our anger into finding a solution. But "hate" always leads you down the rabbit hole toward destruction. It is poisonous and in the end does more damage to you than the person you think you "hate". No way I am going to invest that much of my energy into someone as worthless as Trump.

I live in a Trump district and I can tell you there's a lot of people are realizing that what the establishment GOP is selling on economics is codswallop. The difference is the Republicans have a narrative for improving peoples lives (the problem is immigrants and global trade) while the Democrats meanwhile tell everyone the status quo is great. Trump also markets himself as being anti-establishment while Democrats are hoping getting and endorsement from the Cheney's will push them over the top.

They cannot wait for ICE to show up as long as their nannies, housekeepers, landscapers, kitchen help, construction workers aren't touched. (41,946 posts)That's one of the standard right-wing "comebacks." It typically goes along the llines of "I thought libs were supposed to be tolerant." It's a slam in a thin veil for expressing intolerance of, largely, bigots.
But I will NEVER tolerate bigots of any stripe. Indeed, I despise them, one and all. One of my fondest, longest-lived wishes is for them to be removed from the face of the Earth.
And if I feel a need to express this wish or my hatred of them, I will. The same applies to The Felon and those who assist him in his quest for tyranny.
I'll grant you this: Saying simply "I hate _____" accomplishes nothing, nor do "He's insane," "He wants to be a dictator" and other such words that have become clichés. If it's obvious to all, why say it? Make your words memorable, and never allow them to be silenced.

That said...
My hate for Republicans, all Republicans, with no exceptions, is deep and dark as the vastness of the universe.
The suffering and fear and anxiety caused by these people is beyond measure.
They seem to only exist to torture and harm others.
They are the very embodiment of racism, misogyny, xenophobia and bigotry.
They are the living avatar of discord.
They literally want the absolute worst for this country and everyone in it.
Yes, I understand that some may find this unhealthy but I've lived with it all the way back to my earliest memories of my childhood.
I was a a Democrat in my ideals and principles before I even knew what those words meant.
To be clear it's my tolerance and understanding and yes, love, that made me this way. I am genuinely a kind and loving person but I truly despise those that prey on the weak and vulnerable. That get pleasure in the harm and suffering of others.
And no, I'm not going to work it out with a Republican. They are incapable of neither understanding nor empathy.

(10,799 posts)This is exactly what Donald J. Trump is, repeatedly and without any form of punishment.
Also, we are not tolerant nor should we be tolerant to someone that helped a create a genocide of the American people either. He dismantled pandemic response teams and job titles leading up to Covid. Joe Biden tweeted about it in October of 2019.
When Covid did hit, he literally suggested that we could use disinfectant to put inside the human body to kill the Covid virus. He also encouraged his cult of personality not to receive their Covid vaccinations while he and his wife received the Covid vaccination before leaving the White House. Over 1 million Americans died because of this mans incompetence and lies.
Then this weird fucks little ego got hurt losing the election and he sent his pack of crazies to maim and kill all those that protected our U.S. Constitution, including his own Vice President. LET ME REPEAT, HE SENT HIS PACK OF CRAZIES TO KILL PEOPLE!. He is 100% responsible for ALL who died on January 6, 2021.
