(TNND) President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary and historic role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
In a letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, Representative Buddy Carter of Georgia wrote, "President Trump's influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible. President Trump also took bold, decisive actions to halt Irans nuclear ambitions and ensure that the worlds largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon.
The 12 Day War as the White House is calling it ended just over a week after Israel first launched a strike against Iran, saying they were dangerously close to obtaining a nuclear weapon.

But in other, parallel news about this always a bridesmaid, never a bride drama queen:

A senior Ukrainian lawmaker who nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize has withdrawn it, as peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow slip under the radar and the president keeps his sights fixed on the Middle East.
Oleksandr Merezhko, the head of Ukraine's parliamentary foreign committee, told Newsweek on Tuesday he had "lost any sort of faith and belief" in Trump and his ability to secure a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv.

Pakistan's government said on Friday it would formally recommend Trump for next year's Nobel Peace Prize because of what it called the president's "decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership" during a recent spate of violence between Pakistan and India. India has played down Trump's role in ceasefire talks.
Trump is a "genuine peacemaker," Pakistan said, lauding his "commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue."

(7,978 posts)But, you left out the part where he lies about the ceasefire. Iran denied the ceasefire, but rump claimed a ceasefire, anyway.
He's such an embarrassment.

by prematurely announcing a ceasefire before either party was officially confirmed on board. And I think that's exactly what Netanyahu was banking on because Netanyahu had just gotten off a call with him where they came up with that concept of a ceasefire. And that he was expecting Trump to play along when Israel would later accuse Iran of breaking the ceasefire. What a shock for Bibi when Trump went apoplectic instead.
Don't put any money on that. It's just my unprofessional analysis.

(7,978 posts)conclusion on your part. An excuse to continue to make war for Bibi, while rump gets to whine about the Nobel Peace Prize. He really thinks those Nobel committee members are stupid. If I were a Nobel winner, I'd send them a letter politely informing them that if rump won, I'd send mine back. I'd take a lot of pictures of it, of course, but that's how upset I am. He would render it meaningless.
ETTD.

(47,173 posts)I doubt thats the same thing as a serious nominee with a serious chance of winning.

(32,608 posts)I see an endless series of threats and bribes in their future.
And more truly bizarre and insane antics from Trump's
totally misguided efforts to win. I guess that part
could be entertaining, as long as it doesn't result in
nuclear war.

A member of the US Congress is therefore a valid nominator. 338 candidates have been nominated for the 2025 award, of which 244 are individuals and 94 are organizations. The nomination deadline for the the 2025 award was January 31, so I guess Krasnov's nomination by the suck-up congressman would be for 2026. Not that he has a snowball's chance in Hell of convincing the five committee members nominated by the Norwegian parliament. He's about as popular as a case of hemorrhoids in Scandinavia, and I don't expect him to become any more beloved by next January.

(8,087 posts)He jumped on the bandwagon a bit early, It seems that the cease fire has itself been ceased.
You can bet the conflict that has been going on for over 75 years isn't going to end because a wannabe dictator insists it must so he can look like a hero and get the Nobel Prize he so covets.
Oh, and one more thing. They don't normally give prizes for people who try to dictate peace by way of dropping bombs on one of the combatants.
Ah yes, Buddy Carter, one of the swampiest features of Savannah, Georgia, the last place I lived in the U.S., a state so run into the ground by spineless, soulless & crooked GOP electeds that I lost all hope for my survival if I stuck around & left with very little hope for the country's survival.

(26,165 posts)He's a big dumb fraud. I met him at a pharmacy meeting in Washington DC. He is/was a pharmacist - that's why he was at this meeting.
He couldn't answer a single political question. I really don't know how he got elected. I can't believe anyone would vote for him.
It's got to be gerrymandering that got him in office and is keeping him there.
He's as dumb as a stump.
Birds of a feather....

(58,514 posts)My bet is that neither Trump nor the people nominating him could find Israel, Iran, Pakistan, India, or the Ukraine if their lives depended on it. They could probably find Russia for no other reason than it's the biggest piece of real estate on the planet. Great, so give them a merit badge.
