#BREAKING: Over a (sharp) public dissent from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS clears the way for the Trump administration to remove migrants to third countries *without* giving them an additional opportunity to contest whether they face persecution or other forms of mistreatment there:

DISASTROUS. This means they will send people to horrific situations with no due process â in direct violation of promises the Solicitor General made to the Court in previous cases.

This greenlights sending people to be enslaved in Libya or tortured in any random foreign country.

in these proceedings, the Governmentâs posture resembles
that of the arsonist who calls 911 to report firefighters for
violating a local noise ordinance
SCOTUS enabling LAWLESSNESS you say???

BREAKING: SCOTUS over liberals' dissent, blocks district court order requiring process before carrying out third country removals. SCOTUS's order allows Trump admin to carry out third country removals without the protections requiredânotice and opportunity to raise a challenge. No reason is given.

(3,664 posts)2024 sealed it for the foreseeable future, because we lost both Houses in Congress, and any justice who steps down by retirement or for other reasons in the next 2 years will unfortunately be replaced by someone even more extreme.
VP Harris warned us what the stakes were.

(3,664 posts)suggestion that people don't realize the importance of the Supreme Court.
In 2016 after Roe was overturned, Citizens United happened that corporations are people, etc. when 2024 happened, for me there would be no excuse that people didn't realize the importance of the Supreme Court.
The odds are that the Supreme Court is now lost for decades.

(40,770 posts)The US does not recognize the I.C.C., but when "disappearances" of citizens without justice from its highest court suffer the violation of their human rights, so the Hague can still rule on the SCOTUS' ruling under international law.

(40,770 posts)umbrella of The Hague, both of which the U.S. signed onto but did not ratify through the Senate, thanks to Bush, of course.
But beyond the federal government, it might be possible that several AG's of US states could, evidenced by measurable harm to millions with no legal recourse, ask the Hague (because they don't have standing)
to refer to a Hague Prosecutor to investigate actions of the president, related rulings of SCOTUS, or both.
I could be mistaken but I think that this was what Jack Smith did at the Hague.
Hope for a trifecta election where we finally have a majority in the Senate who'll ratify our being a signatory to The Hague and I.C.C.
We should not have to convince our own party that the American people deserve this level of justice, since they've suffered at home for not having it.

In addition to the obvious human rights disaster this is, the consequences to the rule of law is also catastrophic. The lower courts looked at the obvious malice and lawlessness on what drumpf was doing and issued scathing rulings, to the point of nearly arresting people for contempt, for their orders being ignored. SCOTUS how now completely and utterly kneecapped the lower courts and their ability to do anything to restrain drumpf. There is little point to either follow the law, or obey any sort of court order and/or stay issued by a lower court when you know SCOTUS will stab the lower court judges in the back in favor of giving drumpf the de facto mandate to rule as a King.

(3,953 posts)It's now "legal" for ICE to grab ANYONE off the street and send them into slavery to another country without due process?
Does that mean that they can say that ANYONE can be 'declared' an illegal alien even if they were born in this country to American citizens because they look like they could be an undocumented immigrant?
Are we now all in danger of being disappeared?
Please explain how I am wrong.
Please?

by an unknown, unidentified, GESTAPO, on NO grounds whatsoever (other than what they may or may NOT say)
and VANISHED, without warrant, due process, explanation, or accountability.

The consequences of letting this play out unopposed amount to complete abdication of every principle for which the founders revolted.

So now we see , the additional Supreme Court justices many were calling for and never happened was a huge mistake

(13,402 posts)You would expect any reasonable constitution-loving American to defer to due process and they failed to so what does that say about them? Also, enough of this horseshit about the president's supremacy in foreign policy because these incidents are not occurring on foreign soil so they are not foreign policy and that should be obvious.

will be catastrophic to some. That 30-days is up Monday, June 30th. My wish is that whatever they are going to release will contain info on these USSC judges, notwithstanding R members of Congress.
Will their information be about international child trafficking? Do they have a copy of the Epstein files?? Or, will their information wither in the vine?
30 days = June22
