(70,298 posts)What are they up to these days?
Didn't Catholics break for Trump by a sizable margin in the election? Is he their new Pope? Breaking from Rome, are they?

(86,864 posts)Now if youre talking about breaking stuff by throwing it against a wall, over the latest stupid shit from the donald, THATS a different story entirely.

(25,189 posts)I never voted for him and, as a New York native, I despised him before hating him was cool.

(3,195 posts)Catholic vote was about 55/44 for Trump.
Anecdotally my sister has been friends with a very wealthy, very, very Republican family from church for fifty years. Three people from their family came to Amarillo today to see Bernie with my sister. Unfortunately Bernie had to go to a briefing on the Iranian situation and had to cancel.
And in defense of the Church in Amarillo, I would point out that Bishop Matthiesen back in the 70's was very anti-war during a time when that was dangerous (windows shot out) in Amarillo. He offered to find jobs for anyone, regardless of their religion, who didn't want to continue to work at Pantex where nuclear bombs were assembled.

(20,849 posts)and her line came from Leitrim, where two families had moved from Donegal 3-400 years ago. I have a Great Great Great Grandfather born in the late 18th century there. A cousin of mine was working with someone on establishing the link between the Leitrim and Donegal Dohertys but unfortunately she passed away a few years ago.
I do have a pdf of the Donegal descendant line from
♂ Donal DOCHARTACH
Dochartaig 'The Destroyer', Dochartach
b. 0790 at Finn River, Tyrconnal, Ireland
m. Wife of Donal DOCHARTACH
If you are interested.

(3,195 posts)Three to four hundred years ago would have put it probably right after Cahir's Rebellion. That was certainly a turbulent time, to say the least. The Doherty side is my Mother's Dad as well. My Mother's Mom was a Malone. If I remember my Doherty Grandfathers who were born in the late 18th century were Micheál Mór and Cornelius.

(2,951 posts)...like EWTN and (Ir)-Relevant Radio have been falling all over themselves praising Trump's actions. This began several days ago, even before the bombings occurred. The MAGA and radtrad Catholics routinely ignore Church leaders, of course, especially when it comes to matters of war and peace.
