This group that helped Harris lose is finding out the hard way

This group that helped Harris lose is finding out the hard way - Daily Kos

“It should come as no surprise that Trump’s racist travel ban overwhelmingly targets Black and brown people from countries in Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean," said Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib in a statement. "These policies are rooted in white nationalism and will only increase hate, xenophobia, and Islamophobia in our country."

Tlaib, notably, refused to endorse Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for president last year. And she wasn’t alone.

In 2020, heavily Muslim Dearborn, Michigan, backed Joe Biden, giving him 69% of their vote. In 2024, only 36% of the city voted for Harris, while 42% backed Trump. Another 18% backed Green Party candidate Jill Stein. As Politico summarized in a headline, “Dearborn’s Arab Americans feel vindicated by Harris’ loss.”

Ah yes, sweet, sweet vindication. Weirdly, there aren’t many protests outside the White House. Where are the numerous rallies against “Killer Vance”? Where are the chants of “Genocide Don”? Curious, isn’t it?

Nothing further to add. Article says it all, I think

However we are the ones that will pay for their folly. Many have already paid with their lives with the food he let rot in warehouses.

We are up next with the loss of our Democracy, creon.

It would make more sense if the person you're voting for would support your preferred position. I guess maybe they just stayed home but the change in percentages suggest it's not just people staying home. At least the anti-abortion people vote for anti-abortion candidates. I get being unhappy with the Biden administration's position, but it doesn't seem like they understood the options on the ballot.

It was an impossible situation. I don't like Netenyahu either, but abandoning Israel is just not an option.

As it turned out, Biden handled it a lot better than Trump. And I agree with the people who asked where are the protestors now, other than at a few universities (which maybe not so coincidentally are also in Trump's sights).

I don't think there were good options given where things stood after the Hamas attack. The choices made long before that led to path dependent outcomes.

I think he may have been able to draw a harder line to demonstrate that it was Netanyahu making the choice, but I don't think that would have helped much considering Israel's government and certainly not the magic wand it seems many protestors wanted. Soft power is much less immediate.

the breadth of racism in this country. The president is supposed to hold up the laws against racism and I think the fact that this idiot does not, is a shock.
My friend has long experienced the rudeness from Americans but she is still surprised the whole government is in on it.

that's always somebody else's fault.

No thinking. Thinking leads to more thinking and you might change your mind or compromise or do, like, incrementalism and then you'll be ideologically and morally corrupt and bad.

Same as Obama being constantly accused of illegal surveillance, unilateral drone warfare, drones drones drones drones drones, he's-going-to-start-WWIII, drones drones drones, kill lists (I remember sometimes correcting misinformation about Obama, like mentioning that all attacks were NATO, not unilateral, and the reply, "Why don't you care about the innocent children at weddings killed by Obama's drones?" ).

Trump greatly expanded drone warfare and special forces attacks. Not a whisper.

Obviously only directed at Democrats.

According to AP, 61% of Muslims voted for Harris, while the great majority of white people voted for Trump. Meanwhile, white people like to blame people of color, the majority of whom voted for Harris. They should take a look in the mirror rather than blaming Democratic voting blocks, but that would require honesty. It also shows they see the role of people of color as to serve them.

Pretending Michigan is why we lost is not in keeping with reality. Democrats lost every single swing state, including those with very low Muslim populations.

That being said, Biden’s Gaza policy was a self inflicted error. He could’ve supported Israel in the immediate wake of October 7. His .continued support, in light of war crimes committed by the IDF, violated international and US law. I’ll never know why he didn’t use US power to achieve concessions from both sides and bring the UN and Gulf States in as peace keepers. His decisions probably cost Harris the election and badly tarnished his legacy and the US’s global reputation. Personally, I can’t comprehend the human condition that has manifested in Gaza
