Witty repartee, music, laughs, and truth. Sounds so familiar, this is ever so timely.
Edit to add: I didn't recognize the great actors, which I think is a plus. I feel smarter watching this, refreshing and adding to what my memories of Murrow were. Comparisons to our current reality is very much noted. And Clooney is a great actor.

(4,754 posts)trashing Biden because Biden didnt know who he was at an event.

(37,034 posts)Just a tad more significant than an actor expecting to be recognized out of context at a random event.

(4,754 posts)Clooney still had a bruised ego.
Ms. Toad
(37,034 posts)That incident convinced him that there were serious concerns about Biden's mental acuity, evidenced - in part - by Biden's failure to recognize someone he knew in a context in which he should have recognized him.. And efforts to convince Biden to step aside privately, without public pressure, had failed.
SocialDemocrat61
(4,754 posts)He had not tried privately, no one has ever claimed that. His first action was to publicly trash Biden.
Ms. Toad
(37,034 posts)But there were numerous reports at the time of people trying privately to convince Biden to step down. You don't think someone who co-hosts the biggest democratic fundraiser ever for Biden wouldn't be aware of what efforts had or had not been made?
SocialDemocrat61
(4,754 posts)No one has ever claimed he was consulted on their actions. All that is known is that he publicly trashed Biden.
Ms. Toad
(37,034 posts)You claim he did it because his ego was bruised.
He wasn't a random celebrity who wasn't recognized at an event, as your description implied. He considered Biden a friend, and had held more than one fundraising event for him - the last being the largest democratic fundraise ever. He has a history with Biden upon which to assess his current mental acuity. That event worried him, in the same way the debate worried any thinking Democrat. I live with more than one family member with dementia. What I saw concerned me. There was a lot of public speculation about the need for him to step down. There were several private efforts rumored - for all I know, Clooney may well have reached out privately. But, as tied in as he is to Democratic politics - it is inconceivable that he was unaware of the failing behind the scenes efforts. As far as I'm concerned, Clooney did what needed to be done. I only wish that it hadn't needed to be done.

(4,754 posts)CNN trashed Biden for years and is currently pimping a book attacking him. Forgive for actually having principles and not being a sycophantic apologist for people who betrayed and bash a good man.
Ms. Toad
(37,034 posts)Both can be true - Biden is a good man AND Biden needed to step down. Good people still have limitations, because they are people - and all people have limitations.
You don't have to trash Biden and all that he has done for this country to recognize that serving another term was beyond his current capabilities.
SocialDemocrat61
(4,754 posts)He was a good President and deserved more than he got.
CNN started trashing Biden in August 21 and never stopped for years. They are corrupt corporate media that refused to fact check Trump during the debate.
Ms. Toad
(37,034 posts)It is about what the country needs. Electing someone to office isn't a reward for what they have done in the past - it is as realistic as assessment as we can make about electability and what the country needs going forward.
My mother was a good nurse and is a good person. But in a nursing role today, she would kill someone. Acknowledging that - and suggesting she step aside - doesn't diminish her valuable service in the past, or her value as a person. It is simply a recognition that she cannot currently serve in that role for the safety of her patients.
Biden was a good president. Recognizing his limits with respect to whether he is capable of being elected and serving another 4 years does not change that.

(4,754 posts)Im not a neurologist. Neither is Clooney or Tapper or anyone at CNN. So lets not pretend that anyone knows what Bidens limits are or are not. What about Trumps limits? They dont seem to matter to CNN. They are still fixated on Biden. CNN is a corrupt media corporate owned by billionaires more interested in protecting their tax cuts than what is best for the country so Im not going to make lame excuses or trash a good man like Joe Biden to carry water for them.
Ms. Toad
(37,034 posts)He is unfit, even if he is in full control of his mental facilities. And those who think he is fit won't be swayed by anything the mainstream media says.
As for Biden, if the debate didn't give you a wake-up call, then nothing will. I have, unfortunately, enough personal experience that I don't need a neurologist.
But again, it isn't about awarding a position for past accomplishments. It is about choosing an electable person who is capable of leading for the next 4 years. Recognizing that that person isn't Biden isn't trashing Biden. No one is capable of being president forever. He is still a good person. He was still a good president.
But a lot of us have to take the car keys away from elderly parents or spouses when they can't recognize they are no longer safe to drive. I am not saying he was at that stage - far from it. But some firms of cognitive impairment make it impossible for the person to recognize they are impaired. My spouse has that kind of impairment. With that personal experience, Biden's failure to recognize how bad the debate performance was worried me more than the performance itself.
And again, it isn't about rewarding or trashing Biden. It is about doing what it takes for what the country needs. And sometimes that takes a wake-up call from people with a more objective view than the person impacted.

(6,167 posts)to watch because he wrote an oped they dont agree with well ok. You missed an important show about a great journalist and the media people who stood up to McCarthy. I thank Clooney for the film 20 years ago and the Broadway show now - extremely challenging and timely.

(5,986 posts)Allowing this timely play to be shown on TV was a great idea. In our celebrity addled world, Clooney has what it takes to be elected.

(227 posts)I think I actually enjoyed it more than the movie on which it was based. They added some films clips and information that weren't in the movie.
