They need to be accountable!
When Chinese troops showed more humanity than ICE.

No. I would not dart or stand in front of a moving car, but that isn't the issue in that protest today, is it?

(637 posts)That was very clearly an escape and evade technique, necessary in the moment. He was very clearly trying to maneuver away from and around the subject at many points, was being pursued by an ever-increasing-in-size angry crowd, and had fallen behind in the stack, and was at risk of being isolated, surrounded, and then who knows what would happen if the angry crowd swarmed his vehicle? He did not "run him over." As soon as the guy fell backwards, the vehicle stopped, over his shins from the looks of it, and he backed up and E&E'd to rejoin the convoy.
Based on all of the burned out, flipped, and destroyed cars seen in 2020, do you think any member of law enforcement would react in a different way in today's climate? A great question to ponder.

(110,053 posts)the vehicle--Really? --, btw, the latter which did NOT stop. That likewise is a vehicular offense.
Good gawd. Conflate much? This was not Rodney King and the 1992 LA Riots. Though that is what Trump WANTS... clearly.

(637 posts)the perspective will be painted as one of self defense. It will probably work.

(110,053 posts)Yes, I know. Trump et al has been very effective drumming up hysteria about "these horrifically dangerous 'criminal' immigrants," and that might work in many, many areas of the country. This, however, is LA. They know gang members when they see them and recognize the issues of lawless behavior. But, they likewise know their coworkers, friends, and neighbors and are not afraid of Hispanic people--particularly given 47% of Los Angeles IS Hispanic. I would argue the same for much of the West, including my own Denver--who are not afraid of our Latino population. And, the more Trump's Fascist brownshirts try to pull this throughout this highly Hispanic region, the more we will see these protests enlarge and become more forceful and determined.

(637 posts)that as we see more of these (and I think that we will), they will become more "forceful and determined" as you put it -- I agree with that notion completely.

Yeah I'm sorry to intrude on the red-state mentality some folks here are professing, but two wrongs do not make a right.

(110,053 posts)I think we are agreeing but I'll clarify my own, just in case... I don't see any jury siding with these FASCIST ICE agents against the protester that was just run over--regardless of the excuse ICE/LEO might present to the judge and whether or not that judge chose to side with ICE as well. LA juries have a bit of an independent streak in that regard-- as history would attest.
