Anne Frank: Terrible things are happening outside.

Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes.

Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. They’re allowed to take only a knapsack and a little cash with them, and even then, they’re robbed of these possessions on the way. Families are torn apart; men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone.

How things have changed! These days, they have no homes to go to. There are no markets at which to shop. No longer schools at which to study. I don’t think Anne would approve of these changes.

...about the US. Before we even knew of the horrors of Nazi Germany. Given the number of Hitler fans in the US when Japan forced us to decisively take the other side in the war, had the Nazi horrors not been revealed it's quite likely we would have seen the prescience of Lewis' vision sixty or seventy years ago.

I didn't reference Anne Frank, because I want people to bite, thinking it has something to do with our current situation.
