Rep. Mary Miller ― a Republican from Illinois who once praised Adolf Hitler ― wrote, edited and ultimately deleted a social media post decrying a Muslim speaking in Congress.
Its deeply troubling that a Muslim was allowed to lead prayer in the House of Representatives this morning. This should have never been allowed to happen, she wrote Friday. American was founded as a Christian nation, and I believe our government should reflect that truth. May God have mercy!
The man leading the prayer was guest chaplain Giani Singh, a follower of the Sikh faith, not Islam. Millers Republican colleague Rep. Jeff Van Drew (N.J.) introduced him as such on Friday.
Day after day, year after year, he leads not just with words. but with example ― with peace, with humility, with service towards all, Van Drew said. These are not just Sikh values, they are American values.
He noted that Singh was serving as guest chaplain on the 81st anniversary of D-Day, when Sikh soldiers fought shoulder to shoulder with allied forces on the beaches of Normandy in 1944.
Miller eventually edited her post to change a Muslim to a Sikh but left the rest of her racist post untouched. Finally, she deleted it altogether.

(1,627 posts)Christianity, while generally advocating for peace, has also been a driving force behind numerous wars throughout history, particularly during periods of religious upheaval and conflict.
The Crusades (11th-13th centuries):
. These military expeditions were launched by European Christians to recapture the Holy Land from Muslim rule, leading to brutal conflicts and lasting consequences in the Middle East.
The Reconquista (8th-15th centuries):
This series of wars involved Christian kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) gradually regaining control from Muslim rule, a process marked by religious fervor and military campaigns.
The Wars of Religion in Europe (16th-17th centuries):
Conflicts like the French Wars of Religion (1562-1598) and the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) stemmed from religious divisions, particularly between Catholics and Protestants.
Other Wars of Religion:
Numerous other wars with religious roots occurred across Europe and beyond, such as the wars surrounding the Protestant Reformation and the Anabaptist movement.
Mary, maybe better THINK before spouting off FoxNews nonsense.
This country was founded by peoples of all religions and not.
That's WHY the Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof!
We need smarter people representing the populous, instead of these FoxNews hacks.

(19,840 posts)On January 5, 2021, two days into her House term, Miller issued a prepared speech to the conservative group Moms for America.[36][37] She quoted Adolf Hitler, saying, "Each generation has the responsibility to teach and train the next generation. You know, if we win a few elections, we're still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle. Hitler was right on one thing: he said, 'Whoever has the youth has the future.'"[38][39]

an ugly or unpleasant woman.
Not everything is a slur if we agree to use the language we are typing. Miller is an unpleasant woman.
Even in Webster's Dictionary, my usage is definition #3
3
: a mean or ugly old woman : hag, crone
Words have multiple meanings. If people don't like it, petition the next American English convention to remove the definition. And then go to Oxford and do the same.

(31,590 posts)and I have been to a number of parties where everyone ( but me ) is a sikh ( mostly from Punjab ), and I have been to a couple of Gurdwaras ( sikh temples ). They are the most welcoming people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Anyone that shows up to the Gurdwaras is welcome to eat ( vegetarian - as most practicing sikhs are vegetarian ). The food is great, the people are friendly and do many acts of charity and love being in the US.

(3,658 posts)She was elected in 2020 and is in her third term. They're re-electing a bigot.
It's tradition in congress to have all manner of faith leaders give prayers. They've had them all before, including Muslims on many occasions. I'm not sure why Miller picked this time to expose herself in such a bigoted manner.
I would like mail a pair of my underwear to her with a request that she consume them.
