Imagine how much worst the Great Depression would have been had a Laissez-faire Republican had continued to do nothing except offer minimal help to corporations.
Imagine the world if the in United States there had been an isolationist Republican president in 1940, who let Great Britain fall to the Nazis between 1940-1941.
At a time when the nations in the world were going in very dark directions, FDR saved American democracy and offered Captialism with rules!
Of course, I am biased being a 6th cousin, 3X removed from FDR. 🙂

I will confess, however, to having on my wall one of those photos of FDR that he inscribed to my grandfather, "from his friend, Franklin Roosevelt."
