🚨 BREAKING: An Idaho court has expanded the medical exceptions to the states total abortion ban, allowing patients to access abortion care if they have a health condition or pregnancy complication that creates some risk that the patient may die if they do not receive an abortion.
The judge ruled that this exception should be interpreted broadly by doctors and could apply to numerous serious health conditions. However, the decision notably leaves many people behind.
The court ruled that people at risk of death from self-harm due to mental health conditions still do not qualify for abortion care nor do pregnant people with fatal fetal diagnoses, unless the condition also poses a risk to the mothers life.
With this decision, the court overlooked the traumas faced by the four women who brought this case. Our lead plaintiff Jennifer Adkins was forced to flee the state after getting a devastating fatal fetal diagnosis that, if left untreated, could have led to life-threatening conditions.
While I was able to leave the state for care, others may not be so lucky. I hope to see a day where Idahoans can get the care we need, when we need it, right here with our trusted doctors. lead plaintiff Jennifer Adkins
Were glad the court has recognized that pregnant Idahoans whose health is in danger shouldnt be forced to remain pregnant, but EVERY Idahoan deserves the right to make their own pregnancy decisionsand we will never stop fighting for that.
